Slow News in French is an app that I would love to use with my upper level high school students. It is a weekly podcast which provides current event stories in French at a pace that is easy to understand. It comes with an extensive vocabulary list which is indicated as flashcards. It is a wonderful way for students to listen to authentic French and a diverse group of accents. The stories are current and cross disciplines with other classes that the students may be taking. You can also listen to the podcasts while driving your car or offline which takes the learning outside of the classroom. However, the app only allows you to listen to the podcasts. The other features, such as grammar tutorials, are only available through their website. The largest drawback of the app is that in order to hear an entire podcast, you must pay for the app. Otherwise, you only hear the beginning of the podcast and then the recording stops. I would not be able to ask my students to pay for the app. You must also have a subscription if you want to use the website. The subscriptions start with the bronze level and as your level increases, so does the subscription amount and the features that you recieve. Although I think that the podcasts are engaging and very relevant, I cannot endorse this app due to its limitations based on the subscription rate.

Why do you guys cut off the podcast? This app is really bad! I have to open the app to listen to the audio???? and when I listen to the audio, there is no time showing me which part of the audio i’m listening to???? and when i clicked the pdf while listening to the audio, the audio stops automatically???? Seriously, who designed this thing????? And please, change that ugly blue IRRITATING background, it’s a beautiful picture to look at, but NOT AT ALL to ready the text on!!!! I want the old podcast back! and I’m a paid member!!!!!

Finally an app!

So glad there's an app, but please add multi-tasking so the audio will play in the background. Also, it would be amazing to have the whole transcript with the hyperlink help words but I'd settle for the transcript in PDF form along with the vocabulary one. I'm sure it will keep getting better...

Critical Bluetooth Failure on iPad2

Slow French Listener

This app requires iOS7 and is apparently not compatible with the earlier app, which has to be deleted with all stored earlier episodes. Though it allows episodes to be downloaded to iPad, in my experience, episodes cannot be replayed through Bluetooth because the new iPad preempts the News inSlow French audio files with iTunes Radio or any other audio file. If you plan to listen through Bluetooth on an iPad2 from downloaded (not cellular data) files, forget this app. I'm effectively losing the rest of my six-month subscription and won't renew, at least not with an apple product. Technical support from the app producer is kind, but unhelpful in solving this problem.

The problem with podcasts and other players is that you have to exit the app to see any guides or attached PDFs. This app makes it really easy. They recently updated this app and made it much more user-friendly. Now I only have 2 suggestions 1) ability to automatically play the next episode. I have to select the next episode to play it. 2) ability to know about which episodes I've already listened

I love the program, but I just bought a bronze subscription to test the paid service out and I'm unable to select an episode without it crashing, making the app unusable. Could you fix it? I'll try reinstalling the app as well.

Improve your listening, well, not anymore

*new update only crashes :/ I like this app for improving my listening and vocabulary. I thinks it's really helping with these skills. However, the wallpaper color and the red text of some words is sooo difficult on the eyes!! Please fix this. *The color scheme has been improved, but now the app crashes constantly and won't cache episodes or let me listen to audio without wifi. Kind of pointless at this point. Needs improvements, but I'd still recommend since nothing (yet) is as good.** **Don't recommend it atm. Not until the fixes are made from the last update.
