Fun, easy way to learn chess
Rokur01

Newbie Chess provides a nice, clean interface to make playing chess easy. It provides 4 different computers to play against, or you can choose to play vs a friend. I find the second level 'Bob' to be a good level for my skill level. The hazard indicators are a very nice and make it much easier for a beginner to see what pieces are in danger.

Great for kids

My 6 year old really enjoys this app. It let's him play around with chess and figure it out. This app is nicely done.

Great app in need of one option!
Themis144

Awesome app for teaching someone chess or for your own learning curve. Simple, user friendly interface with great newbie features. BUT, if you play head to head there needs to be the option to turn the orientation of the pieces and the text so that both players can read their pieces from across the table. Right now, black and white orient the same direction so if you're black and playing at a table, you have to read upside down. Kind of a let down, but still a near perfect app..

My teens love this!

User friendly. Great for road trips! Helpful teaching tool!

Good app overall, but can be improved
Koopa_Troopa

Good app! My 8 year old practicing chess with it. (Wins and draws rewarded with Pokemon cards). Couple of remarks - castling is hard to execute and it also needs different undo settings. Restricting number of undos would be great to develop proper chess habits in young learners.

Ai weak
Nelo234

Just bought this but what a waste! It's the only game with 960 so I bought it. But the ai is too weak to bother with. I'm talking 800elo max. What a waste don't buy unless you are really just learning.

Playing Black
Globalpimp

It would be nice to play the black pieces right side up. When you play black it just flips the board, the pieces stay the same. So if you play the black pieces they are up side down. " Very Annoying!" It shouldn't be the hard to change the format. Other than that its a very cool chess game. I love the graphics.

Great for beginners

I must take issue with the person who says the engine is too easy. It is called Newbie Chess after all. It is great for absolute beginners and small children. It fills a need very well. Probably not for people who can advance more quickly.
