Fresh maps

Maksjuha

I have bought your app for 99 USD, why I need to pay for Fresh Map update? Absurd

Need to work on the software to manage map updates

Pierina

I like the capability and features of the app. However, every time there is a refresh, the maps are so large that it takes a long time for the download. Also I would expect that once you start the update process, the download will happen in the background but I am not sure this is the case since I tend to give up after waiting for a long time and grabbing up to see no real progress. For such an expensive app, without ability to have fresh maps in a more straight forward way, it is not worth the investment

poor performance

Used this on my iPhone 7 during a recent trip to Florence, Italy. It is a complete disaster. I had similar problem while on vacation in London a few years ago. Deleting and never using again.

Solid and well-implemented

I’ve been using this app on 3 generations of i-Things over 4 or 5 years - since before Navigon was purchased by Garmin, in fact. I've used it while traveling in most of the countries of Western and Central Europe, in Scandinavia, and in about a half of Eastern Europe, on roads ranging from Autoroutes to cow paths. It works well. One of the app’s strengths is the Map Manager, which allows maps to be loaded and unloaded depending on which countries my trip will be in, therefore saving the footprint needed for hold the whole map set. Maps can be loaded “on the fly" whenever the device is connected to a Wi-Fi network. One of my strongest criticisms is that in France (in particular) the “lieu dit" names, usually just naming a single dwelling, appear at the same level of visual importance as a town of 20,000 people. That makes it difficult to find villages and towns amid the visual clutter of named places. There should be a way to filter the names by population, so that overviews show only “real” towns and villages. Even a cutoff size of 100 people would remove almost all lieu dits from the map. I've bought several of the in-app enhancements: Panoramic 3D (worth it for navigating by large-scale landforms), Urban Guidance (worth it if you’re going to be walking around in city centers), and the Michelin RedGuide (hasn't been too useful, since I mostly sleep in privatzimmer and pensiones, and find out where to eat by asking the locals). I have been using TomTom’s products for North American maps for historical reasons, but their apps have become so ugly, stupidly low-function, and resource-hogging that I'm constantly waiting for the Navigon North America to go on sale so I can throw the TomTom stuff in the trashbin, even at the monetary cost of having paid a small fortune for the whole TomTom "adventure."

Disappointed

I've used this app mainly in Slovenia, Austria and Slovakia and it worked fine. Recently I've been to Barcelona-Spain and this app failed miserably. For a trip that should take no more than 45 min was plotting a 2 hour route. I DL offline maps into Google maps and never looked back.

Junk just unreliable junk!

Winbenn

Second time in Europe and the app failed and wanted me to RELOAD BRAND NEW MAPS I updated before traveling over and used the first week in Europe before in trashed out today. Incredible junk. This is NOT the app you want to depend on traveling Europe! Been a navigon fan for a decade but fading fast with such lousy software and reliability.

Unresponsive

Update is horrible

bordyafromthestern

So it works as a gps on my iPhone 4. Not just like the actual gps unit, but probably the next best thing on a cell phone. I got the one for europe, it's nice, but the rub is the extras you have to pay for, like panoramic view and traffic updates. Way over priced extras. Works on my six plus as well. New update is horrible. Landscape mode is dumb because the map is basically just as big as as portrait because of the new layout, it wastes space & it not as easy to use as the old style. The swipe is pointless, & it won’t keep the home address or work address saved so those butters are a waste of space. So the update is a lot worse, I really like the app before, for a long time. Now I am may look for something else. The TomTom is pretty much the same crappy set up, & cheaper.
