Not quite five stars

I like MySudo. I’d like to give it five stars. However, I nearly always work in landscape orientation. I have limited finger/hand function, and reading MySudo screens sideways is challenging. Please, PLEASE make MySudo rotate to landscape!! Thanks.

Problems

Update: app is pretty much unusable because after an unspecified period it is "backgrounded" automatically and all phone calls and texts do not come through, no notification at all. So when I next decide to open the app, I see missed phone calls and voicemails. I have already missed several critical business calls. Customer support said it is a known issue with certain iPhone models. Why wasnt it disclosed before I signed up? I now have potentiality 50 work associates I have given my number to and per sudo I cannot port my number. I have no idea if they will fix the issue, much less when. Plus instead of notifying me when it is fixed they want me to follow their Twitter or other page. I am looking for a replacement service now to cut my losses. Old review, updated: I needed another phone number and tried out a large number of options (talkatone, pinger, hushed, among others), and had the best voice quality and reliability with mysudo. There are a number of limitations however, the web browser can only be accessed through the app, so it is an extra click, there is no group text (except for mysudo users), there is no call forwarding or call routing. Customer service responses are fast. With the other services I mentioned I frequently had missed calls or poor voice quality but this has never happened with sudo. Privacy features are a plus. Email works well.

Pricey, and numbers are hit or miss.

The concept is really great. One major beef I have with this app is the pricing. The $15/mo plan is the only one that had unlimited calls and texts, which seems quite high to me. Last I checked Burner is cheaper with the same capabilities. So if what you’re after is the phone capability, I’d go with something else until prices are lowered. That brings me to my next point: Because companies have caught on to many of these services, they can detect VoIP numbers like the ones MySudo uses. This means that for most online services, you’ll still have to give away your personal phone number since they don’t allow numbers from MySudo. That basically eliminates 2/3 features of the service (text/call/email). Email is the easiest to generate a fake for, so this ends up making MySudo almost worthless. For its current price points I would expect something more than its current offering given these limitations.

The only reason I have an iPhone

Hopefully the promised android release happens this year. I bought an iPhone so I could run this app I will be going back to a android running a 3rd party rom as a daily phone when I can switch back.

Needs Better Plans

I like the app but it doesn’t give you enough text messages unless you get the sudo max plan which is way to expensive. With google voice you get 1 number and unlimited messages for free.

Crashes

Worked well for a while but suddenly crashed and did not work again

Do not use as your primary phone number

YouMustveDoneSomethingWrong

I’ve been using this app for about 2 years now. It’s always been pretty good. It used to work perfectly until a couple updates ago when they added the web browser. Now the app constantly (almost every time I minimize it) closes out in the background and it causes me to miss phone calls and texts. It does not work as a full time phone for me anymore because of this issue. I’ve emailed the developers back and fourth many times over the last couple months and there has even been an update since, but still no fix and this is the main reason I cannot recommend or continue using this app. Side note: they gave me a beta pass to a previous build and it worked perfectly. I don’t like the web browser integration. It feels bulky and out of place and makes this feel like an app-that-does-it-all. I just want MySudo for communications and that’s it. I don’t like placing all my eggs in one basket. I prefer companies release a product that is the master of what it does and not the jack of all trades. It’s especially annoying because they removed the “contacts” button from the bottom in favor of the web browser button. So now to get to your contacts you have to use the side bar which doesn’t make any sense being that this is primary a communications app. Also there is no group conversation ability, I’ve had random issues sending pictures, and sometimes it tells me that a number I’ve called many times in the past is all of a sudden “a non supported country code.” On top of that I am an iPhone user but these people really need to release an android version and instead of doing something everyone wants they are throwing useless features (web browser) into the app.
