Gorgeous, Delightful and Fun, But Misses the Book's Message

NeoApocalypse

This app is lovingly true to the minimalist collage art style of Eric Carle's Classic children's book, but misses the mark of the book's message. The message of the original is lost in this adaptation. No longer does the caterpillar finally realize that he needed to eat 'caterpillar food' after gorging himself on human food for a week. Now he eats a progression of fruit before he transforms into a beautiful butterfly. At least he doesn't spend a sixth day on a processed food bender. Kids won't learn here that animals (including humans) need to eat food appropriate for them. In fact, they unfortunately may take away the opposite message from this app. Gone also are the lessons about the days of the week and progression of numbers that Carle so deftly integrated into such a short book. Time progresses as the caterpillar naps, but it's unclear how much time and there's no narration to take that opportunity to teach a lesson. Most importantly though, this app is a delight and children will love playing with their caterpillar as he reacts to their direction and to his toys. This is a great app to play with your small children as you explain what is happening. This app is a great companion to The Very Hungry Caterpillar, but no replacement.

Beautiful App

Osobean

This app is beautifully designed and has wonderful staying power. My daughter and I have watched the caterpillar transform into a butterfly well over a dozen times and she still gets a big smile every time. I wish there were more apps for children that were this thoughtfully designed. I recommend it to anyone looking for a game for young children.

My daughter loves it.

It's one of her favorite games. Used to be her favorite by far when she was a bit younger. Great game. I enjoy it as well.

Fun!

Thanks for the update!

Update horrible

Since I have updated this app I can't get it to open

Delightful

Tweilan

This is a delightful, engaging and charming app which my child explores repeatedly. I do wish there were strawberries on the fourth day as it is in the book instead of a repeat of the plums.

Pointless

I was ever disappointed with this app. I thought it was going to be like more interesting. I thought it was going to read the book while play along with the caterpillar. my daughter was done with in 2 minutes after playing with it. She wanted to play a different game.

Love it!

My two year old brother loves this game!! He even waves night night to the caterpillar when you put him to bed!

Really Really Wonderful!

PlumToothPaste

I cannot say enough how much we love this app!!! Plenty of fun things to do. The little world changes a tiny bit for each new "day" for the caterpillar so that's good. My 2 1/2 year old has played it regularly for months & I love it too. It's very cute!!

Not working correctly

I'm very disappointed I spent so much on this app. It won't let my son scroll over to play the entire thing. All he can do is a bounce a ball, water some plants, and feed the caterpillar. Playing with the boats and all the other things doesn't work because the screen won't scroll over enough.
