Hard to get past the superficial issues

There's no way to get back to the music list from an individual tune; what should be a "back" button takes you all the way back to the main screen. The speed settings are global, so if one tune is too fast, you can't slow it down without slowing down the next one you play as well. The "PlayType" setting is inconsistently applied. The box doesn't play until you swipe it open, which would be fine if it were obvious that you needed to do so. The first time you use the app, you'll probably spend several seconds waiting for the first tune to load like I did. The graphics look subpar, and it's very disappointing that the box cylinder doesn't rotate. The overall color scheme makes it look very non-iPhone-like. Sound quality is harsh on the built-in speakers, but that may be unavoidable. "AmagingGrace"? Not to mention typos in the help section. Overall, not impressed. I do like the music composition interface, however.

Perhaps it needs a bit of polishing up to make it sound and look authentic but I find it very relaxing to be "punching" holes and composing tunes on the fly... For 99 cents, it's a sweet little music box.

I don't understand why some reviews are so harsh. It does what it is supposed to do. Considering they made a lot of improvements to iKoto I would think they will make this one even better over time.

You need to have some basic music theory for sure, but it does what it's sopposed to do. I've been having a lot of fun with it!

i've wanted to buy a programmable music box in real life, but don't really know how to go about that. wel i searched here and found this. i felt very slightly overwhelmed with all the different note selection, but once i started tinkering with them, it made itself clear. if you don't blare the volume to the point of distortion, i believe it sounds very realistic, and soothing, the way a real music box should be. the only advice i would give, is, when you're in the middle of the reel and hit play, it would be nice to be able to start from where you are, and not the beginning everytime. perhaps implement a 'start from beginning' button as well?

This app was what I was looking for; A good buy on my part I must say. I did need to brush up on my music notes ( A sharp, B minus, flats, etc etc.) But other then that, it's great. <3

I don't know why the other reviews are so negative. It sounds like a musicbox not a baby grand. I like the editor, but agree that the graphics for the actual boxes are not up to iPhone standards. I gave it 5 stars to offset the low ratings. Worth the 99 cents.

A wonderful little program

Programmer, this is as wonderful as all the instruments you have produced. I have enjoyed the choice of tunes and the sweet way it plays. The graphics are nice. Thank you. May we have a way to save our own tunes under our title? I accidently saved over one of my favorite tunes and had to reload the program to get it back. It could be something as simple as "Owner 1, Owner 2, etc.." Update to this post: I FOUND IT. I found the place you already created to create and save my tunes...sorry I missed it...right on the "title page". LOL Thanks again. :-) LOVE IT!

Ultimately Disappointing

I tried hard to like it, as it has the features I would expect. But in the end the unremarkable interface graphics and more importantly the poor sound quality spoil the illusion of owning a collection of fine music boxes. The samples of the tines don't even sound as if they are multi-sampled. I belive just one or two short recordings were used to make all the notes. (a comon sampling trick... Back in the day) This gives the instrument a very stale and predictible sound. Also since the samples seem to be so short, the notes don't decay naturaly. Bottom line is this... yes, the tines of a music box sound small, toyish, and often slighty disonant. But each tine sounds unique, and that natural blending of subtle imperfection is what makes music boxes magical. This app has missed the whole point. Listen to it next to a real high quality music box and I belive you will understand. All this is sad, because although there are better sounding music box apps for the iPhone, none come close in features. So to the developers, Will you please consider improving the sound? I think your product would be very worth while if some effort was made in that erea. Thank you.
