Nice, Challenging Game, But Glitch?

I've just completed the game, but I think I've met a glitch that is precluding me from playing the alternative ending as well as the secret chapter. I saw a YouTube tutorial video in which the tutor accessed the "Load" function from the Main Menu at the end of Chapter 7, where one could see his/her saved progress. There was a prompted question whether or not you wanted to continue with this chapter. Then, the tutor was taken back to the end of Chapter 7 and given both pills again by the character to continue. When I re-access Chapter 7, the red pill that I need to feed and the flower are ALREADY in my inventory — they shouldn't be in my inventory at this point — and the character does not give me anything again as the video shows. Even though I have the red pill, Mr. Pumpkin is not laying on the table for me to give him the red pill. The game is reading that I've just given Mr. Pumpkin the blue pill over and over again. There is no way to feed Mr. Pumpkin the red pill — because he is already in the rocket — to finish the alternate ending and trigger Chapter 8. I hope I am not screwed, but this seems like a bug. Can someone please help me on how to proceed?

some of the puzzles have no meaning and are impossible to solve without a cheat and I hate that you can finish a level without having to use all of the items you have collected.
