ALPHA SPY

We're very pleased to introduce and feature a special new section. It's called Alpha Spy, riffing on the famous "I-Spy with My Little Eye" adventure. Hope you enjoy!

THE TESTED AND PROVEN PHILOSOPHY BEHIND ALPHA WRITER

In Montessori, writing comes before reading. This is because writing is the expression of your own thoughts, whereas in reading, you must identify the letters placed in formation to comprise a word of someone elses choosing. For children just learning their letter sounds, this can be an extremely difficult and frustrating task. We're hoping to help alleviate that with Alpha Writer. The moveable alphabet was created for children who have the ability and interest to start writing and reading, but don't quite have the fine motor skills needed to hold a pencil and draw the letters. It's also helpful for children who would like some added practice, having the opportunity to express themselves with no external pressures. At this stage of development, Montessori believes that spelling is not essential. Thus, we place an emphasis on the phonetic sounds used to build a word.

More for ages 3-6 than 6-8
Codiedog16

I wish there was a preview option as I would not have paid for this app for my 8 year olds. This is very Montessori like but I think more towards ages 3-6 than 6-8. If you are looking for younger kids, this will be awesome.

Alpha Writer is Outstanding!

This is one of the most engaging apps that I've seen. It takes learning to the next level. Highly recommend!

This app is a game changer.

I have watched my 20 month old daughter spend the past week working with this app and it is magical. For someone her age, unable to write, it is teaching her to create and tell stories. Where this may have occured in the past, through scribbles and scratches, she is now using images that allow us to create the story together. For an older child, it provides a platform for writing and spelling that is awe inspiring. I even watched a college senior play with it for over an hour because of the accessible interface and noteworthy design. I am new to the Montessori concepts, but this application is first class. **To the previous comment: If you're having trouble starting the app, restart your iPad. You probably have too many things running.

Will not start?

My daughter loves the other two apps, but this will not start. I've been trying to redraft it now for the last hour.

No control of error
Montessori guider

There is almost no control of error or it is buggy. I am hoping there are updates to this soon.

Thank you
MontessoriDad

This is a gorgeous app. Thank you for allowing kids to just enjoy creating stories and spelling words, without any bonus points, gold stars, extra credit, wacky sound effects, applause, gratuitous praise, or other silly distractions. We have all the Montessorium apps, and we look forward to each new release!

Excellent!

Worthless app until crash bugs are fixed!

Really compelling, minor critique
FranGro

Art and sound are wonderful. The interface is easy. My four year old enjoys it. The only criticism I have is the positive reinforcement for spelling words is easy to miss. I found my child losing interest because of this. She doesn't know when she's right or wrong. Two issues: - When you spell a word correctly, it is possible to interrupt a playing audio by hitting the check mark again quickly and miss the audio confirmation that the word was spelled right. For kids using this in isolation, this is a problem because they don't get any feedback or miss it. - Even when you carefully wait on the check mark upon spelling the word correctly, the transition back to the screen of pictures is very similar to the incorrect case. I understand this may be part of the teaching method, but if the child doesn't get some more significant feedback, the smarter kids tend to find the experience unfulfilling. Having said that, my child frequently laughs at the creative sound effects when clicking on the pictures and the phonetics are instantly obvious to her.

Really?

I have had nothing but fantastic experiences with the Montessori methodology, so I was excited to get this app. i I downloaded for my little girl to practice her spelling and story-telling. First thing she looked for was the human character that related to her. I was stunned that the only people are male, and most of the images are things that typically resonate with boys, like methods of transportation, bugs and other creatures Are you kidding?
