Hardly works, poor choice for learning

Too many issues

Very good for working in letters. Sounds are not technically correct

rFriend

Drawing letters is pretty good, but has some minor issues it you don’t complete the line fully. Sounds such as ‘g’ add an ‘uh’ sound which is incorrect. Many people teach letters this way, but it makes it harder to teach correct spelling later.

Something weird happend on the lowercase q in the drawing activity

Killerbootsmann

Well the circle was out of the q then weirdly the dot was going fast up the q and I’m like BTW how did that dot do that?!?! that’s weird

Needs more testing

Buffy2day

Mandatory background app refresh - foolish. Preschool fingers have to be exact or app won’t let kid move on to next letter.

Not accurate

pbewley

I tried this app out to suggest to parents at home, but I got as far as the sounds of the letters and was sorely disappointed. The sounds of consonants should not have vowels attached; that makes it hard for children to move from writing to reading. It’s not “buh”, “cuh” and “duh” but just the one SOUND. Disappointed that I can’t recommend this…

Instructions?

There are no visable instructions here. Did I miss something? How does a child use this?

Worthy of the name of Montessori

We have been using iPad apps for letters and phonics for a while now. In my opinion, even when they hold my girl's attention, they are too distracting; the focus is not on the letters or their sounds, but rather on the pictures and sounds related to the pictures (animal sounds, object sounds, etc. rather than letter sounds), in addition to the "game" itself. In the end, I found my girl did not remember anything except for the bells and whistles. This application is exceptional in its simplicity and its quiet focus on the letters and sounds. I think we underestimate our children's interest in learning itself. We think we have to have heavy stimulation for them to stay focused, but I think that is not the case. The calm low voice and the pleasant colors help continue without getting overexcited and simply just touching random buttons. Plus, my girl especially liked the way she can record her voice and hear herself say the letter or sound.

Great app, but tracing should work even if outside the letter

NSXFreddy

This is a great app, simple but effective. The only thing needed is to let you trace even if you're outside the lines slightly. My 2 1/2 year old caught on right away but couldn't quite get started inside the lines, even though he got the motions right. I'd give five stars then.

Best app!

Kdfmom

This is the most wonderful app. My almost-four year old played with it for only 2 days and is already telling me all the letter names whenever she sees letters! I'm an elementary school teacher and I'm thrilled!!

My kids love it!

elwoodchu

My 4 years old's kindergartens follows the method of Montessori, so when I found this apps, I am quite excited. My wife also bought a set of physical Montessori tools but we seldom play with my kids. But with this apps on my iPad, it is much more convenient. Actually, after a fews days, he could play it by himself without guidance. The only thing I want to improve is about the user interface. It's great but my kids need to wait until the voice is finished before he could drag the letters. It made him a little bit confused because he couldn't wait and started to drag. BTW, I think I will buy more apps if they make it.
