Underrated Gem!

This game might just be a slight alteration on the Tetris theme, but it has enough uniqueness to it to make up for it’s somewhat derivative mechanics. For instance, rather than being based on fitting in the correct shapes of pieces, the individual blocks that that pieces are made up of continue to fall when there is a space for them to fall into and this particular game mechanic being coupled with the same colored pieces matching means that a lot of strategy and in particular planning ahead can pay off with big combos and points being rewarded. I think the highest combo I’ve gotten was ten or eleven and few things are as satisfying as dropping a piece in place and watching a huge combo chain together and clear most of the board and this satisfaction is heightened even further by getting a huge combo chain right as things start to not look good (like when so many unmatched blocks have built up that there are only one or two places to even put the pieces). The game has an almost perfectly tuned risk and reward aspect where, in order to pull off huge combo chains and get a really high score, the blocks must be built up fairly high, but by building them so high, one invariably puts themselves at risk of losing. The slower pace, careful deliberation and strategizing of the standard game mode gets flipped on it’s head in the timed mode where the game becomes more about being able to rapidly recognize the initial matches while usually just hoping that you can start a combo chain. The timed mode can be played the same way as the standard mode, but when I’ve tried to play it like that, it’s always resulted in lower scores. Due to the short time limit of the timed mode, playing the game feels much more like frantically flinging pieces that fit, appear to match, and can either start a combo chain or help build up to one. Thus far, I’ve only described how the game is when the individual blocks are one solid color and how they match on their initial contacts with the same colored blocks and then as they continue on their paths filling in whatever spots have been cleared for them to fall into. After so many matches have been made or a certain score is reached, the game really starts to get heated up by the addition of different colored boxes within the colored boxes. This little additional gameplay element is where the game really starts to shine when it comes to being more of a strategy game than just another mindless matching game! My only complaint with the game is that for the kind of game it is, it sure seems to take up a lot space. (edit) I guess over the course of the last few years that I’ve been playing this game, there must of been an update that reduced the game’s size, as it’s now just around 100mb. Unless I’m remembering wrong, the game used to take up considerably more space (as in like 500mb to 1gb), but either way, I no longer have any complaints about the game. Although I would like to see an update with special blocks or different power ups and maybe another game mode or two!
