MIDI Memo Recorder

Please Note: The MIDI* record and play features of this free app require a hardware MIDI accessory from Line 6: a Mobile Keys 25 or Mobile Keys 49 keyboard, or a MIDI Mobilizer II or MIDI Mobilizer MIDI interface. MIDI Memo Recorder simply records and plays any MIDI data - any time, any place. The app's streamlined design makes it quick and easy to store, find, recall, and even email any type of MIDI information - all your synth sounds, Line 6 effect patches, musical inspirations, and more. And with iOS version 9.3 and higher, MIDI files can also be transferred between your mobile device and your computer using iTunes File Sharing.

When the MIDI Memo Recorder app is used in conjunction with the MIDI Mobilizer II and MIDI Mobilizer hardware MIDI interface accessories, it's compatible with every single product equipped with standard 5-pin MIDI connectors. That means literally millions upon millions of keyboards, amplifiers, effects devices, and other types of audio gear throughout the world.

The MIDI Memo Recorder app also serves as the firmware updater for Mobile Keys keyboards, and for the MIDI Mobilizer II and MIDI Mobilizer MIDI interfaces. That means you can always get the latest firmware simply by updating to the current version of the MIDI Memo Recorder app and running it.

* "MIDI" stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface, the worldwide standard for communicating musical performance data between musical devices, computers, and mobile devices.

great but a few "must have" feature requests
boyfriendacademy

Awesome app, very user intuitive. This morning I successfully transferred a SysEx bulk dump from my old Yamaha RX11 drum machine and was able to reload it back into the RX11 just fine. I'm going to test it on the rest of my MIDI gear today. If you haven't bought the Line6 MIDI Mobilizer adapter and you have MIDI gear, do it now. But I do have a few "must have" feature requests to make it even more useful. I hope the development engineering team seriously considers and hopefully implements these in future releases: 1. Please add ability to upload MIDI files back to MIDI Memo app on iPhone/iPod from computer via the web interface or via iPhone/iPod email inbox so that users can (a) easily share MIDI files with other MIDI Mobilizer users and (b) easily load their MIDI files into another iPhone/iPod if they upgrade to a new iPhone/iPod. 2. Please add "categories" for organizing all your MIDI files. Right now, the app and the web interface only show a long flat list of all your MIDI recordings. This is cumbersome once you've got more than 10 or 20 recordings. It doesn't have to be fancy multi-level categories (although that would be nice). Just a simple editable list of categories that shows up in both the app and the web interface similar to how Bias implemented categories in iProRecorder would be great. 3. Please add ability to edit the MIDI Memo app "database" so users can delete MIDI files and edit the metadata like "filename" (and "category" as described above) via the web interface. 4. Please use consistent port number. I can't bookmark the web interface URL from my computer because the app seems to pick a random port number which is annoying because you have to go look up the port number in the "About" screen of the app everytime. It would be better to use the same port number consistently so on the computer you can simply bookmark the URL. The port number should probably be a user-defined variable setting in case other apps are also running a web interface. I'm not talking about the IP address, I have my iPhone forced to a static IP address. I'm talking about the port number (the number after the last colon in the URL). 5. Please add ability to run web interface in background after exiting the app. The web interface stops running when you exit the app. It would be nice to be able to let the web interface run in the background even when you exit the app so you can access the MIDI files from your computer whether or not the app is running. Perhaps this is dependent on the new iPhone OS 4.0 with multitasking? -Tony

Very basic

I have the hardware. This program does very little. You can't even send commands to request a sysdump.

Solves a need brilliantly, a few more features please

For years I've wanted something that could quickly record an idea I had on my Yamaha Disclavier, a piano with Midi. All laptop solutions sucked because by the time I booted up, started a sequencer, configured it, got it ready to record...the inspiration was gone. And if a new virus pattern had to be downloaded, arrgghh. This thing is absolutely immediate. Instantly works. (this says something about the whole idea of apps versus a bloated, general purpose PC). For me, I would like what the other reviewer requested: a way to get existing midi TO this app. And his categorization ideas is good. Otherwise, I am extremely happy with tnhe concept and it makes a great use of old iPod Touches or iPhones when you upgrade to new ones.

Great start!

Finally something to replace my fading Alesis Datadisk! At this point I'm only using this as midi data storage for a drum machine. It didn't upload the info from the drum machine quite as smoothly as I would have liked - some 'sets' took several trys before loading correctly. Now that they are all loaded, they seem to transfer back to the drum machine okay (no problems yet). I'l drag the datadisk to the next couple of gigs just in case. Like Tony mentioned, a simple folder system would be nice. In fact, I like all of his ideas! BTW, the files don't seem to appear on the memos list in the same order I loaded them nor alphabetical.?? Great start to a very useful app but certianly some room for improvement.

Please Update this app and the Mobilizer Firmware.

Now that i find this app a lot more usefull... Can you please update the export options and add Dropbox Support or the ability to copy the file to Airsharing or similar app? The Mobilizer is a little shaky with handling a lot of notes. Please give it a look see. iPadHD Update would be cool too. Bless your heart'

Improve please

Needs a built in adjustable tempo and maybe a metronome along with a better export feature

Problem with startup
buttercupisevil2

I bought midi mobilizer and was excited about this app. Now it stopped working (no startup) after countless hrs of live recording midi sequences into it. Frustrating! I'm hoping to find a different/better app that is more stable. I'm hoping to be able to store sequences in alpha order? So I cam recall them.

Line 6 POD XT Live MIDI
Teamsters2

A must have for any one who owns a Line 6 POD XT Live. Record a riff or custom tone in a matter of seconds. I'm sure the guys over @ Line 6 are brewin up new apps with all types of goodies. Line 6 has never let me down. Their technology is always one step ahead, just check out their New Wireless Systems.....Finally someone got it right. Thanks Line 6

Very nice and slick
drummer man

This is the most useful idea ive seen in a while. Two things IMO that would set it off are, a metronome and folders for better organization. Other than that, IT'S TIGHT Accurate play on words I must say.

Great Hardware, Marginal App
MisterFudd

The Midi Mobilizer is Excellent! But this App (for me) is useless. All I need it to do is to be able to download MIDI files through iTunes on my computer to the App so I can play my Yamaha piano. C'mon guys... This ain't Rocket Surgery!
