Your personal use of MI COVID Alert helps inform others of possible exposure to COVID-19 if they are suspected of having been within close proximity to someone who has tested positive. When you download MI COVID Alert, you are helping your community stay ahead of any potential surge in COVID-19 cases.
How MI COVID Alert Works:
Once downloaded, users of the app who have enabled it will exchange anonymous Bluetooth “keys” (random alpha-numeric codes that represent a Bluetooth signal) with other MI COVID Alert users.
If someone reports that they tested positive for COVID-19, the app will search for other users who shared the Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) signal. The BLE signals are date-stamped and MI COVID Alert estimates how close the two devices were based on signal strength. If the timeframe was at least 15 minutes and the estimated distance was within six feet, then the other user receives a notification of a possible exposure. Names of users and locations of possible exposure are never tracked and never shared.
The BLE framework within MI COVID Alert will run in the background, even if the exposure notification app is closed. It will not drain the device battery at a rate faster than other apps that use normal Bluetooth and/or are open and running continuously.
How MI COVID Alert Protects Your Privacy:
MDHHS takes your privacy very seriously. This is why we chose to use the Apple and Google BLE framework. No personal data or location tracking occurs within MI COVID Alert.
MDHHS and local public health staff follow up with persons who have a positive COVID-19 laboratory report. Public health will provide MI COVID Alert users with a validation pin. That validation pin must be entered into the app to report a notification of possible exposure to other users. This prevents people from falsely reporting positive results, which could generate false exposure notifications.
If you have the current Apple or Google operating system installed on your device, you may have noticed that Exposure Notifications are now included. You cannot enable this function until you have downloaded MI COVID Alert. Apple and Google will delete the exposure notification service tools from their respective operating systems once the pandemic reaches a point that public health no longer requires the use of this technology.

I like the idea and functionality of this app however I wonder if this will be as affective as this was meant to be unless as many people as possible can download and use it.I kind of feel like those who don’t care too much about Covid probably it wouldn’t care to download this app anyway.

Don’t waste your time. It doesn’t work the way it was designed. I keep filling in the prompts for region and other prompts only to find that it did not fill and will not work.

The app doesn’t “detect covid”, it only works if the confirmed case person has this installed and also reports it using a discrete PIN you get with your positive result.

Just downloaded three days ago I’ve traveled and run a lot of errands clocked in at least 25 mile radius nothing coming up so far. Not much as far as information or user maneuverability goes.

Hey... This App does NOT detect Covid. The only way you will see ANY notice is IF the person uses this app to warn us. I cannot give it any “star ratings” because I see nothing or notice any changes in the App. I have it a neutral rating so that I could post my review. Battery drainage? I see zero drainage on my cell. Make sure to check your Battery in your Settings and see where most of the drainage is coming from. Remember, this is a brand new App and most do not know about it. Let’s just hope most will use it. As for the city offices that spread Covid, noticing that this app was out there for one day or so at that time, they probably did not know about this app yet? Hopefully it was on the news or in the media to warn people? I am trying to stay positive here. The BEST way to stay safe is to WEAR A MASK! Now that is one thing I can complain about. When I am out at the park or driving by a little league game, 99.9% of the people were NOT wearing a mask! That is a shame! Stay safe everyone. We need to stick together and do what is right, because we ALL are going through this.

Basically 2 phones have to have the app installed. If one persons tests positive AND reports it in the app AND your phone was within 6 feet for at least 15 minutes, then your app would provide you a notification. If the person who tests positive DOES NOT share the results in their app, your app would NOT provide you a notification. Be courteous to others and report positive test results in the app.

Glad to see this is available. I think there needs to be an increased campaign so everyone is aware and will make it more effective. Everyone living and traveling in Michigan should have this app activated to help with the test and trace and eventually the elimination of covid!!

I like the idea . But the fact that this app relies completely on self reporting and given the delays in reporting test results, this fall far short of being an effective tool. By the time you actually get your test result, if you’re one of the VERY FEW people that have downloaded this app , the effectiveness goes out the window . This app will not track your movements from 3 or 4 or more days ago to tell you that you were in close contact with someone who finally got their result and then decided to go ahead and report through this app.
