Keeps locking out purchases

My kids like this game so I bought the upgrade. Every few months they have an update to this app, and the update locks out my purchased upgrade. Since my kids' iPads are locked to prevent in-app purchases, I can't just "restore purchases" as advertised. I have to go through a 20-step process to first unlock the iPads, then re-lock them, all for this one app EVERY FEW MONTHS. I'm sick of the hassle. I deleted the app.
