I really want to like this app. I used stanza for years and hoped for something similar. File handling is clumsy, when it works. I like the DropBox tie-in, but it often crashes the app. (See GoodReader for fantastic file handling, with folders.) I've had this app lock up twice, which forced me to delete and reinstall and then recopy all my epubs--over 750 of them. Customer support is poor, i.e. No reply to emails. There's a bug when opening a book for the first time: app goes to start screen/desktop, then opens upon tapping Marvin icon again.

Great iOS ebook reader for Calibre users

survolx

I prefer the reading experience in Marvin to iBooks, Kindle, and Nook apps. And Marvin accesses my huge Calibre library via Dropbox and OPDS. All considered, the best ereader I’ve tried.

Marvin

Glowbug too

I love the app, except it stalled between chapters, and I cannot delete the book to see if that is a program or book problem. I've emailed them on March 20, 2016, but have received no response yet. I will update this review once I get their help. Gloria

Working with Calibre again is overdue

Niamakutaku

This worked with Calibre at one time. This was ideal, and with a small amount of adjustment in Calibre, this worked very well. As Calibre has been updated and Apple has made changes to app requirements this is no longer possible without an update. The developer hasn't made this adjustment and it is long overdue. Fixing this will get the remaining two stars from me. If the app were free I'd have no complaints.

Meh

For the most part the app does its job. I can't take an app seriously that only supports Dropbox for cloud sync. Next.

Love it, needs iPad Pro support

Flyinjack

Great app... Needs iPad Pro 12.9" support. Does not look as nice as it did on smaller tablets.

No vertical scrolling

I use the new slide over multitasking feature a lot on my iPad for notes, language dictionaries, etc. but because the swipe turns the page, every time I try to slide over the page turns. Very annoying.

Excellent e-reader

This app is so good it actually sold an iPad. I was looking at tablets and considering non-Apple models as well, until I realized that Marvin was iOS-only. Okay... Getting an iPad then. I was a huge fan of Stanza until Amazon killed it off; Marvin is a more-than-suitable replacement. Really excellent interface and powerful features make this an excellent program overall. From note taking to navigation. I love the swipes for changing brightness and warmth. Lots of thought went into the design. Suggestions: On leaving the app it should auto send my position in the book for syncing on other devices. Seems lazy that I have to do it myself, and then the app tells me that the device I'm on now is at an earlier position and asks if I want to go back. They do need a whole-app "night mode". Reading at night the bright white menus are blinding. They should also clean up the hinky "extra dimming" interface and simply allow the standard dimming swipe to go further. EPub 3 support! (Including video ePub) PDF support would be nice.

In App Ripoff / Does not work with Calibre as advertised

Daniel C.R.

I pay for the app and can't do something as simple as change the background color without paying more for a "theme." What a greedy ripoff. This is something you offer for a free version, not a paid app. Also, false advertising. Does not work with Calibre, which is the only reason I bought it. Deleted the app. I would not recommend this app or any other app from this company.

Wait for upgrade w. Calibre

xyzzy40

This doesn't work with Calibre and the latest iOS. A upgrade (and added fee) is in the works. But that upgrade is lagging. Don't get a crippled app that doesn't do what it says. Wait for the upgrade.
