Euro-boardgame of expansion and conquest in a fictional Renaissance era where da Vinci's ideas for steampunk tanks and aircraft became reality. Gameplay is pretty standard post-Risk sort of stuff. Invade areas, build up your income and troop levels, bid for superior weaponry (which is limited), build castles, then decide when and where to go at your opponents. Not necessarily groundbreaking stuff, but the AI is good (with several levels of complexity), gameplay is engaging, there are several paths you can take to victory, and the UI and tutorial are both excellent. Only complaint would be no pinch and zoom on the main map, and no game center support (yet). PS: for those who are wondering, Gyroscope card gives one extra hit to aerial attacks.

Game has been bugless. It's got enough strategy to be fun without getting granular. Best feature is multiple AI choices so you can start easy and keep it challenging as you improve. Other nice feature is that Slitherine does not SPAM you with review requests. This is the first review I have written in a while because I am so tired of Rate Me SPAM. Game is just what I expect from Slitherine.

A nice war game where it takes skill AND luck to enforce your will. I especially love how the AI, 3 opponents, is always attacking you. But, I usually winde up wiping out 1 or 2 colors... Goal to own it ALL, except for the minimum 3 (1 per color). It would be nice if they added some more weapons or let you play a survival mode. Worth the price of admission...

Update -> I previously rated this 5 stars and commented about how unique the game play is, how well it's designed, and how smooth it plays. It's simply a great game, fun to play, and the recent update adds new content. However, two things: - I don't think the Easy AI was "made easier" as promised. - geez, I've only seen 2 of the new cards (Missile and Mobile Bridge) but on those two there are three spelling errors! If I recall: "destruot", imfantry, and something with two m's where there should only be one. Frankly, there's no excuse for this. Please review the new cards and correct the spelling! This is too nice a game to have such blemishes. Thanks

I liked this game much more than I thought I would. I have played the board game and enjoyed it, so I figured why not try this digital version? I am glad I did! It plays very well, it is stable, and easy to learn the rules. If you like light war games, this is for you. The new maps and new cards (available as cheap in app purchases) are well worth the money, spelling errors and all. One of the best turn based board games on the iPad - give it a try. A lot of fun for a good price.

The gameplay and idea of this game are great! I originally gave it 4 stars, the only thing making it 5 would be multiplayer. I don't understand why it came out with updates in maps and a few cards without multiplayer. I'm already at the point where I can beat the most difficult AIs every time. There is no point in playing this game anymore, please fix.

It's not the best military strategy game I've ever played. It's not the best empire type game I've ever played. It's not the best economics game I've ever played. But it is the most challenging, intriguing and fun to play of it's kind. In fact, it stands alone as a game I can see myself playing for many years without ever getting tired of it. It really is neat. Kudo's to the authors!

This is essentially a game of Axis and Allies, or maybe Risk, that has been ported over to iPad. It's a great game: it takes some learning of he rules, but for the most part the tutorial covers a lot of it, and the in-game reference manual is there for people with more patience than I.

This is a great game, it's fun and challenging. The only thing that it needs is multiplayer.
