If you play the strategy game Mafia (aka Werewolf) in online forums or at get-togethers, Mafia Boss can be there on your iPhone or iPod touch to keep track of the game's status.
"Mafia" is a multiplayer game that is played in a group or online in a forum. A majority of players belong to the "Town", and try and identify, and vote off, the minority among them who are the "Mafia" by questioning and logical deduction. At the same time, the Mafia tries to blend in as normal Town members and pick off Townies each night.
With Mafia Boss, you can
- record votes as they occur.
- see at a glance who voted for whom, how close to elimination (lynch) each player is, and how many votes it takes to eliminate a player.
- see which players haven't cast a vote yet.
Mafia Boss simplifies keeping track of a Mafia game. You never have to add up votes and unvotes or calculate how many each player has. You never have to guess how close to a majority vote any player is.
- remove, change or add players at any time - scores adjust automatically.
- automatically updates vote counts.
- recognizes when a majority vote has occurred, and Game Over when one side wins.
- indicates Day or Night phase, and the current day or night number.
- performs the nighttime Mafia action.
- (NEW) email the game score at any time to anybody.
The game status is preserved when you switch to another iPhone app, or receive a call. Complete instructions are included.

Terrible game. All it is is 5 buttons which let you vote on different people to get rid of. I bought it and deleted it in 5 minutes. Waste of 3$.

This app is what I've been waiting for ever since JL said he was working on it. It's for people who play Mafia online and want to have a better way of keeping up with an ongoing game than continually copying things off the forum website. I thought it would just add up votes, but it does more than that. It knows a majority vote, it allows night actions, mod kill, and even lets you change a player's name for substitution or add new players in the middle of a game. Now I don't have to wait for someone to add up the current vote count, or worse, add it up in my head. All I have to do is check the website and tap the latest votes into the app and it generates the current score and list of votes for me, as well as who is left to vote and how close to lynch everyone is. You can ignore the unvotes on the forum because this app does them automatically when you cast a vote. But there's an unvote button in case someone casts a lone unvote. I want to be able to add player roles, but that would only be useful to moderators. Feature Request: add player roles for those who moderate games!!!

Very fast and easy. I will use it when I play. I like the automatic unvote - way less stuff to enter from the thread. I mod some games so it would be nice to be able to enter who is Mafia and who is Town and have that tracked also. It's cool that it comes with instructions.

OK...I have to ask...you actually READ the description...bought it anyway without really know what it's FOR....and you have the Balltics to dis it? One-Delta Ten-Tango... Let me see if I can explain....when playing a Mafia game, it's easy to lose track of who voted for who, who took a vote off, where the trend leans. Removing a vote is as telling as placing one. Trying to keep track of all the action over a week or longer can be a nightmare. As has been proven, an app like this which is akin to a portable spreadsheet can mean the difference between being lynched and winning the game. Nice and portable. Works as advertised....as ADVERTISED!! READ the descriptions...!! Then you wont end up looking silly like Ec1793 Nice work JL...I use your Jumble Helper daily...

This application has a very highly niche job. If you play online Werewolf, it helps you to keep track of votes leading up to Lynch deadlines so that you don't have to update counters yourself, or wait for the moderator to do it for you. Unfortunately, this application IS very niche. At the time of writing this review, it only uses rules for I would assume one specific werewolf web site. (Mafiascum.net maybe). And the lynch rules seem to be hardcoded for that web site. I play on a different site, where lynch rules differ, so though it does what it says. It will prematurely call lynch anytime a majority is reached on someone and head for the next day. With no way to undo what it did. There also seems to be a bug, when clicking reset the game, it raises an "are you sure?" question, however, there is only a way to answer yes to this question. This could be a descent enough program to help with online WW in the future, but I think it needs to go through a couple of versions. Thanks.

When JL came out with his desktop Mafia assistant, we were all very happy, even those of us with out an Apple desktop. This easy to use application takes the core out of his main desktop application for moderators and helps the rest of the players keep track of a game very quickly. I've written my own application for Windows and have taken tips from JL to improve my own application. Now that I have a Touch, I find myself using my own app less and less because of how great Mafia Boss is. Thanks for making it JL!
