Lux Radio Theater was broadcast on different radio networks from 1934 to 1955. Initially, the series adapted Broadway plays during its first two seasons before it began adapting films. These hour-long radio programs were performed live before studio audiences. It became the most popular dramatic anthology series on radio, broadcast for more than 20 years and continued on television as the Lux Video Theatre through most of the 1950s.
Cecil B. DeMille took over as the host on June 1, 1936, continuing until January 22, 1945. On several occasions, usually when he was out of town, he was temporarily replaced by various celebrities, including Leslie Howard and Edward Arnold.
Many of leading names in stage and film appeared in the series, most in the roles they made famous on the screen, including Abbott and Costello, Lauren Bacall, Lucille Ball, Ingrid Bergman, Humphrey Bogart, John Wayne and many more.
I've been enjoying this great collection of old radio shows. Money well spent.
I love the Lux Theater shows but almost always they shut off about halfway through. I get a message that there is no data. Is this a common problem. Is there a resolution? I contacted customer support and received a quick response. They suggested "swiping" the title of the program to use the timeline view and to check the Internet connection. That seems to alleviate the problem.
Wow I wasn't expecting to have access to just about every great drama I loved at the movies...
Nicely done. Easy to use. Would have given 5 stars if app had continuous or shuffle play like your suspense app.
I appreciate being able to hear all of these great shows, but there are a couple of flaws which should be addressed. One, the app does not keep track of what episodes you have listened to. Another annoyance is 2 pop up boxes which must be clicked which tell you the program may take a moment to load. Really? They serve no purpose, but to make you perform meaningless actions.
This is the best out there! Thank you! Takes me back to a simpler time - I love it! Did I say Thank you?
