Can't activate app in US. Phone number keeps getting rejected, not sure how to enter it.

The format to enter the phone number is not clear or doesn't work. Account cannot be activated due to invalid phone number. But there is no place to change or verify your entry. A 10 digit phone number in the US looks like this: xxx xxx-xxxx.

I find it unusual that they make it impossible to register for this App! I deleted it after 30 minutes of wasted time.
