Buyer Beware

Be careful. The LingoDeer App claims that in order to unsubscribe you need to go to your App Store profile and unsubscribe from the subscriptions tab. When I visited this tab I saw that I wasn’t subscribed to LingoDeer on the App Store and figured that I must’ve preemptively deactivate the auto renewal (like I usually do). Turns out, I was subscribed to LingoDeer via paypal of all services... Unfortunately the app does not mention PayPal being a possible source of subscription. I submitted a ticket requesting for a refund but have not received a response in thee days (they claim to get back within 24 hours). This app is otherwise a solid app (minus some odd technical issues in the IOS app). Sorry, but for now this app is a one star app in my book.

Obvious issues

I have been using Duolingo for awhile (and it’s FREE!) to learn Japanese and decided I may want to try some different styles. Obviously a couple free, infant level intro courses tells me nothing about the experience and could not convince me to purchase the subscription. And I noticed a VERY BAD deficiency: it does not consider the flexibility of languages AT ALL! naturally there are more than one way to translate a sentence to another language but seems the courses in this app have some predetermined “standard answers” in mind and only answers that are VERBATIM to them are considered correct. A few examples: 1. When I omit the subject (e.g. 私は...) as Japanese always does, it will flag me wrong ‘cause the sentence doesn’t match the answer. 2. When I type the correct kanji instead of hiragana in a translated sentence, it will flag me wrong. It makes me wonder if the course designer really knows the language they are teaching. My native language is Chinese and I’m not completely new to Japanese so I believe I’m making some valid points here.

Love the app!

Very entertaining, easy to use. And keeps you interested.

A great tool

Learning a language in your 20’s when you only speak English and remedial French is hard. However, using this app is incredibly helpful for working towards fluency. I recommend using LingoDeer, the free version of Duolingo, listening to language podcasts like the News In Slow series, and finding a partner or a teacher on italki. Try watching Netflix in your target language as well.

Won’t stop asking me to review it

Even though I’ve disabled in-app ratings and reviews.

Great app but has some flaws

iwanttolearnalanguage

A friend of mine recommended this app to me and I decided to try it out after two years of using Duolingo. At first, LingoDeer seemed like a perfect app and I was very excited to start learning Japanese. I finished with the Nationalities section and was ready to move on when I realized that to move on to the other sections, I would have to pay. All in all, it is kind of a waste of what could be s really good app. The app design and concept is great, but for what it is, it’s not worth paying for. I will continue my search for a language learning app that works well for me, but in the meantime, I will continue using Duolingo.

Great for beginners! Decent price subscription!

I’ve been using this to refresh my knowledge and so far it’s decent. It’s good for probably up to A2. It’s fun and not overtly intense. I use this complementary to my main source.

WOW I love this app!

I’m trying to learn Japanese and this app is one of three that I’m using, I currently use Duolingo and ling, but this one is honestly my favorite, I am still a beginner, but I’m confident that I’ll be able to learn a lot from this app. I have already learned most of the hiragana from Duolingo, but I am really enjoying the review I’m getting from LingoDeer, I’m actually having a lot of FUN using this app! I haven’t looked at the other languages you can learn from this app, but I think that this app is really well made and is making my Japanese learning experience so much easier and more fun! ???

This is amazing

Once you get the membership this is extremely helpful because it shows you learning tips to write down and in what order sentences are supposed to go in.

I like it a lot

gggguuuuyyyyyyyy

I like this app a lot more than Duolingo and Memrise. I’m using it for Japanese and it follows the textbook Genki 1 really well
