Best overall language app

I have 4 apps to learn Portuguese and I'm learning the most with this one. At first, I went through the predefined categories but found myself spending too much time on words I didn't need. Then one day I walked around the house add words to my own list and it's been great. I've learned the words I can use the most. If I were to make one suggestion to the software designers it would be to add a verb mode. Verb conjugations are a big part of learning a language and would be a great addition.

Not a good aplication. The interface is ok but the vocabulary is way too limited. I feel like I didn't enhance my grasp of the language at all.

I just bought this app, and already find it highly effective. The interface is very intuitive, and you can change your "plan" to customize it for your learning style. It now has an audio feature, which is very clear. It's expensive, but much more useful than a book which would cost the same or more.

Broader vocabulary would be nice- basic words like "come" and "go" for example. Also, the audio is a good quality but does not apply to the search function. Overall worth buying

This is one of the best language programs available for the iPhone. It is very intuitive and actually enjoyable and fun to use. It has a decently large, though sometimes a bit quirky, set of words (over 2.000). One thing it does not have is pictures, to visually depict the words (which some of the competitor programs have), though this forces you to focus more on the spelling of the individual words. Another useful option that should be added, is the ability to add additional words, either on your own, or by the developer (and to include the spoken pronunciation). The pronunciation of the speaker in the program (male) is quite good (so says a brazilian friend).

As a beginner, I think this delivers what it offers: over 2000 vocab with voice files.

Buy this app if you're serious about learning Portuguese - it's great!!

I LOVE this application. I've always been a fan of flashcards, and the useability of this software is excellent. It's very easy to create your own customized lists, and I find I can spend my time actually learning and remembering the vocabulary...not shuffling paper cards of which words I've learned and which I'm still working on. That alone is great, but having the clearly intelligible native speaker pronounce each words - that's even more valuable for a language like Portuguese that is not always pronounced the way it's written. I wasted over $400 on Rosetta Stone and never use it...it goes way too slowly for me. The $8 I spent on this app...it's worth way more than that to me. Very high recommendation. Thanks!!
