A gem of a learning application, with a great concept for combining education and gaming fun.
Crazy Mike's Apps

The experience is on-par or better than Byki or Rosetta Stone and we can’t applaud it enough. It is unbeatable value for the language learner.
Luke Patrick

This app encourages quick learning of words and is a wonderful tool for learning as it makes it fun and quick.
Tessa Alfred

“As it’s for beginners, and all about fun, there’s no writing – just aural and visual recognition….and so the app’s nicely-drawn and cartoony visuals come to the fore” - Penn Olson

Good rote memorization drills
Happyboredom

I saw this in hacker news and figured I would give it a try. The artwork is nice. The game is fun. It is simple to understand and I am finding that it is effective for rote memorization of the vocabulary and written characters. If the developers are listening: I really want to learn more food and restaurant menu vocabulary. Not just "chicken" but "chicken chow mien" - that would be killer!

Sound leveling but not much of a game.
Jinniu

Mandarin Madness gives good basic vocabulary for beginners. It will help with listening skills and character recognition. The music, art and overall style of the game aren't bad but are definitely a far cry from a Popcap game. If this game were to provide more animations, levels for upper-intermediate students and more creative and challenging gameplay I would pay more than .99 cents.

Got to know the words first
Utrecht1011

You better know the words first as the game goes fast. There is no "teaching" mode, nor explanation page. Would have been much more fun, if they would have an option to learn first.

Fun!

This is the fun way to practice Chinese!

Doesn't work with new iPad.
Ilonacoyle

I can't get past the opening screen to even open the program. Bummer.

Very good

This is a really fun game and is pretty good for learning basic Mandarin. I'm a complete beginner in studying Mandarin but I think this game will be very useful in the future.

I Love This Game!
starrwoman

I can't stop laughing! This learning/game is adorable! It has taken the seriousness out of what can be a daunting task taking on such a language as Mandarin. I have lots of apps on the language but this one keeps me engaged for a lot longer than I would with the other ones I have tried so far. Even though this app is geared towards young learners, to me I am a " young" learner of Chinese. I have always wanted to learn the language for years and now, thanks to modern technology I can. The app has an easy interface and repetitive features where you can return to the first level if you need to refresh your knowledge of the simplified characters because you really need to know the characters and/or the sounds to advance! The game speeds up after awhile so it is necessary to know what you are seeing or hearing. There is also a reminder feature to alert you to return to your lesson after you select what day is good for your next session. This app is very cleverly done, very colorful and if it can get me laughing at my mistakes it is a minor miracle! I highly recommend this app for beginners in the language. You will not learn how to write characters...which is essential, but you will learn the characters offered, the audio is crystal clear and the pronunciation seems quite accurate. This app is a must have for those who want to learn Mandarin. I leaving now to play again. I hope there is more apps forthcoming from the developers. Thank you!

Good game but limited
Zhen zhu2

Great for learning numbers but the spoken component is only available in some of the games. I can learn to recognize the characters naming vegetables but I can't hear how to say the words. This feature is available for the numbers and animals games

Really good game.

I hope this company makes a lot of language games of this quality. I would love to see something like this game for the Russian language.

Meandering madness
Sew easie

Really good game because it teaches both spelling and pronunciation.
