This app gives you an extensive selection of puzzles in grid sizes ranging from 3x3 (good for beginners) up to 6x6 (for more advanced math minds and puzzlers). The rules are simple: Place numbers into each cell of the grid's "cages" to create true mathematical statements. But watch out; each cage has to be completed without repeating a number in any row or column! A full explanation, along with an easy-to-follow tutorial, is provided in the app for your convenience. NCTM KenKen provides a wide range of puzzles and levels. Challenge yourself to complete them all!
KenKen is now played in over 30,000 classrooms worldwide! Will Shortz, the New York Times Puzzle Editor, calls KenKen "the most addictive puzzle since sudoku."
This app was developed by NCTM Illuminations and KenKen. Check out [email protected] for the online interactive along with supplemental classroom resources.
Just tried this with my group of 5th graders. Exactly the positive response I had hoped for. Was pleasantly surprised how much they liked the challenge of the Progression mode. One student showed me they already had a KENKEN Classic app on his phone and was doing very hard puzzles there. I'm recommending this app to the district. It's free and no ads.
What a great KenKen app! I signed up for the KK Classroom Program on the kenkenpuzzle website and I've started using this app to supplement my weekly puzzle sets, both in school and at home. It's fun, exciting, and a great way to learn and teach math and thinking skills. My kids love it and, I must say, I love playing it too...it's totally addictive! I especially like the Progression mode...fun and very challenging. Thanks NCTM for this great app, and bringing KenKen to the classroom. (By the way, my kids even love playing the app at home with their parents!)
Not updated for > a year. It's not too buggy, but needs fixes such as a way to turn off the (loud!) trophy tune that plays when puzzle is filled in correctly; app should open to where user left off instead of cold open screen; needs to be a way to delete the solutions so puzzles can be reused; etc. Not much hope, since there seems to be no one home at the developer.
Can't get this thing to be quiet. Unsuitable for playing on an airplane or in any other public space.
