I love KCRW and this makes me love them even more. Such a cool experience! Can't wait for more bands!!!
I downloaded this app out of curiosity to see what it was all about. I figured since it was KCRW it might be cool. However this app is a huge disappointment and super buggy. The volume gauge appears upside-down on the screen, that was a bad first impression. But more importantly, since it's about music and performance, I was hoping for a cool video experience. It's not that 360 video is bad but some applications are better than others. Why would I want to stand in the middle of a room watching various musicians from a distance where I can barely even see their faces? How is that any better than the multi-angle video from your normal performances? I felt like those give a better experience overall. Plus when the video starts, the viewer has the same perspective as the artist, so you have to spin your device behind you in order to see the artist. So forget about settling into a nice chair to watch these, you'll have to get up and point your phone behind you to see the main performer. This technology simply doesn't work in this format, it's pure novelty.
They've been mentioning their VR app on KCRW so I thought I'd check it out. The content is super cool; it's like you're standing in the studio with the bands! But the app is a little buggy on my iPhone 5s with iOS 10. The left and right eyes are out of sync with each other and the audio and it's distracting. You're better off using the YouTube app and searching for "kcrw vr" and watching what they have there until they update this app. Seeing as the last update was Jan 2016, it's long overdue.
Very disappointing. 12 videos and most were pretty old. You could do better searching through YouTube.
