Members of the Beta Lambda Chapter which was chartered on the campus of Lane College and the Alpha Theta Chapter which was chartered on the campus of Tennessee State University were graduating and remaining in the Jackson Area. The nearest Alumni Chapter was located in Memphis. On December 3, 1949 Earnest Carter, Fred Mitchell, Andrew Jack Payne and Robert Radford chartered the Jackson Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

The chapter quickly grew but was small compared to such chapters as Memphis and Nashville. One of the Benefits of having a small chapter was that the members would host the meeting at their house. This is a tradition that is still carried out to this day. The brothers would meet in the den while the silhouettes would meet in the living room. After the meeting they would sit down to a very festive meal. Visiting brothers from the large chapters were very impressed with the comradery.

Although still one on the smallest chapters in the South Central Province, the Jackson Alumni Chapter has always maintained a very dedicated group of Kappa Men that continues the Kappa traditions that were established by the founders.
