Chromecast A+

Antcy

Finally added Chromecast support. And with some/most of the Criterion collection this is an awesome app and amazing service.

Easy to set up

flick1776

It was very easy to sign in with my library credentials and get access to an interesting and diverse set of films. The recent addition of chromecast support is very useful. It would be nice to have more discovery tools in the app but it's a very nice resource.

What a find!

designK

Amazing! Free streaming of 100s of movies including the Criterion collection with my NYPL card! High quality video...documentaries, drama, comedy, classics. My only question is when will this app be available for Apple TV

Now with Chromecast!

Adamc2012

Fantastic app now that it supports Chromecast!

Great library!

Neesso

Hats off to Kanopy for providing this amazing collection of films and videos from around the world. Now, I was going to ask the developer to please add a Chromecast extension, but I read the reviews and the dev's reply where you stated that the latest update supports Chromecast, but I just downloaded the app today and I couldn't find the extension!!! Could you please clarify if there're steps we need to do???

Film selection = A, Functionality = C-

tcolmena

A = Kanopy offers a fine and broad selection of films, many not found on other streaming platforms (although dropping the Criterion Collection was a bit disappointing). They partner with libraries, allowing users with those accounts to view up to 10 films each month at no charge. C- = But the app has always presented with problems. Scrolling is never smooth (searching the database, adding to watch lists, reading film notes) because screens snap back into original position. CC titles are off by a considerable margin or freeze altogether. Controls (reverse, pause) require multiple hits (using finger or stylus) before responding; ultimately, closing the app might be the way of to go. Some films never play, yet register against the allotted 10 as if they have. (I tried to watch “Coda” multiple times; it played for all of 9 seconds.) Associated library accounts are inactivated for no apparent reason, with no clear path to reactivation. (Ironically, it was in activating another library account, that I was then able to reactivate the first.) There are fine streaming apps out there; Kanopy needs to take lessons from those for an A+ product.

Great film selection, but too quickly docks from your library quota

bkreine

I am down to 3 of 6 films for my monthly library quota because I accidentally pressed the play button for a mere split second while browsing—and unlike Netflix, it does not recall what you were previously watching, so you cannot even go ahead and watch accidentally-clicked-upon movie without being docked yet another film from your monthly quota.
