Many sites use third-party scripts to track your behavior across the web, causing pages to load slowly and draining your phone’s battery. Blocking these scripts dramatically improves page load time, data usage, and battery life.
- Fast, curated filter list
- Open source
- Also available for Safari on Mac
Protecting privacy and performance on the web is important. We hope you enjoy Ka-Block!
This blocker is a great example of reasonable compromise. To be clear, this app is not going to block all adds. That's okay, though -- getting every add it there requires a *lot* of additional regular expression matching that probably isn't worth the non-linear increase in cost.
Works to block many ads and improve your web surfing experience on iOS. This app is open source so if you want to help improve it head on over to github and lookup ka-block! under dgraham. This ad blocker helps to speed up all the sites I visit! Thanks!
Great app. Won't drain your battery at all. ... Check your " app background " on your phone to keep optimum battery levels.
Too bad it relies on app updates for filter list updates. One ought not have to update an app, to update its filtering rules. [NOTE: This content blocker app balances speed, efficiency, and good user experience, against perfect ad blocking. It deliberately employs a *very* small, but highly-optimized filter rules set, to block the bulk of egregious ads, while seeking to minimize *average* web page load time. In other words, some ads *will* get through its filters; but on balance, pages ought to load faster and with less processing overhead, than with most other content blocker apps.]
If you’re the type of person who will spend all afternoon obsessively picking every stray ant, one-by-one, off your picnic blanket, don’t get this app. Even the best ad blockers simply can’t perfectly block all ads. So, this app isn’t intended to block every possible ad: it’s built for simplicity, efficiency, and speed, with the goal of absolutely minimizing *average* webpage load-times in Safari. Also, unlike some other ad blockers that can sometimes get bogged down, using this app ought never take longer to load some webpages (than with those ad blockers turned off). This app’s blocking list is intentionally small and highly-tuned, with only one goal: speed up the web as much as possible — while still blocking as much as reasonably possible. [Note: One unfortunate feature of this app is that it currently requires actually updating the app itself, to update the block list. Hopefully the developers will implement a way to auto-update the block list, without having to necessarily update the app!]
Simple, fast, and it just works. No need to mess with things, I like this.
Browsing is faster and webpages are less annoying. This extension along with Reader mode in Safari has made reading immensely nicer.
Two guys from GitHub write a content blocker in a under a hundred lines of JS, post it up for free, and I've never heard of it until now? Madness. Works amazingly and is exactly what I wanted. If I want 100% coverage I'll stick to desktop chrome with the full security suite of paranoid blockers. If I want to use my devices on a day to day basis and not have loads of ads or worry about malvertising in mainstream domains, I install Ka-Block. ?
