Overpriced Beta

Have to agree with previous rating. Website is better and free. This app has needs some serious work before it's worth its price. Additionally, it only works in landscape mode?!? Horrible for one-handed use.

Just stick with the website

This is way too expensive for what it does. The Jorudan website, which is free, actually does more, in that you can pick a route based on an arrival time. With the app you can only select a departure time. [Edited to add: I see now that the app allows you to pick a route based on arrival time, first train, or last train. So 2.1 stars instead of 2] You can choose stopover stations, but not how long you want to stop over, so that feature is pretty useless. The app does have timetables, which is nice, except they only show departure times, not arrivals, so again not so useful. The routings are not linked to timetables, and vice versa. You can't select "train only", or "Shinkansen only", or ask for the next later routing, or any other such things I hoped would be on here since they're charging so much for it. It does what it does fine, but the website is free and does more.

For those of you traveling to visit Japan and need a quick and easy way to navigate their wonderful and exceedingly useful public transit system, I highly recommend this app. Recently I went to visit Tokyo with friends who also used all other forms of Japan's metro apps. What took them 5 minutes and affirmation from transit workers, took me less than ten seconds to navigate the system and knew all the proper transfers (all results include variable paths and arrival, departure, first and last train schedules which are updated according to rare changes). This is vital when moving throughout a bustling and jam packed rail system. I also have yet to find an interactive rail guide app that lets you start with a beginning and end point, know all 6 JR rails AND all other competing companies schedules, let's you know which platform to wait on, and to top it all off, this Jorudan is all in English! All you have to do is read the sign that's written in Romanji (English letters) at every station! I was able to go from Tokyo Dome to Shibuya, down to Harajuku, from Akihabara to Ginza and south to Shinagawa, all in one afternoon. No Japanese, absolutely no Japanese rail experience. And I look back at how absurdly inconsequential the price of this app was in relation to fluidity of my tour. Seriously, I can't overstate how many times I used this app while in Japan on tour.

Hmmm

Google maps is 1000x better and free. This app definitely does what it says it does, but it doesn't do much. It might possibly be worth it if it had a map option. It's hard to know exactly which station is where without a map, since there are several stations (or more) per city.

Annual New Year Crash

Great app, but it stops working for several days every year on January 1.

I wish this helped me...

This doesn't include my home station, Matsudo, even though it's a commonly used station just outside of Tokyo prefecture. Kind've disappointed, especially after paying $2.99 for it. I wouldn't use this unless you're using really common stations in Tokyo.

Please return the timetable
BigSilverMoon

I appreciate the look and function of many new updates in the latest version, however, I relied on the timetable function to a specific place for work every day. Now I can only view when the train departs, and I can't choose my destination, making it difficult for me to know if that train will stop there and when it will arrive. Please bring back the functionality of the timetable. I used to recommend this app to everyone but now it lacks such an important feature with the update. 5 stars if the feature is returned.

Same thing ☝?️

I wanted to know my departure and ARRIVAL to a destination. So please bring it back. Thanks

Great improvement

This is one of the best (if not the best) train route calculators currently offered. In the latest upgrade searching for station names has improved immensely. I like the addition of also listing the station name in Japanese characters, it's very helpful. Another wonderful feature that sets this app apart is that it lists the platform number... when you're in a hurry this is extremely useful.

Made my life so much easier!

I've been meaning to write a review for a while, but just always slipped my mind. I've been using this app for almost 4 years now, but it's the most useful and easy-to-understand app I own. Japan's transit has always been complicated (for me) and I have gotten lost more times than I would like to admit. After getting this app, I feel so lost without it. It's so simple, and since I use it so much, it has paid for itself pretty much. I highly recommend this app to English speakers coming to Japan for an extended amount of time, or numerous times either for work or leisure). Thanks for reading!
