Awful update- deleted previous photos and videos

I was surprised that the developer updated the app after 6 years. I have kept the app on my phone because I had original video and photos from 9 years ago on iPhone 3G . They are all now gone and I can't find them. So disappointing and I should have thought about upgrading but wouldn't think they would delete everything. Just awful. Hopefully I can figure out a way to restore it but it's doubtful.
