iHomeEducator has released a new educational app for Kindergarten to 6th grade. iLiveMath Oceans includes over 30 types of sea creatures, educational links, and educational videos with ~1 million randomly generated math word problem questions which teach addition, subtraction, fractions, and geometry.
The first in the iLiveMath series was listed by GameClassroom as a Top 10 Educational iPad App, "Stampeding toward an iPad near you, this app (iLiveMath Animals of Africa) combines math with zoology for a hair-raising learning experience (which is currently being enhanced for Apple’s latest and greatest)."
"Each of these three iLiveMath apps are engaging and succeed in making mathematical connections to real world scenarios thus allowing math to 'come alive' for students. This is a great alternative to traditional practice while still providing meaningful problems to further develop concepts", states Hyperhomeschool blogger.
Just like the previous iLiveMath apps, students and teachers can collaborate on word math problems using email, and blogs. Questions are asked and the student selects the answer from a picker dial. The student is then provided immediate correct or incorrect feedback. Quiz results can then be shared via email and sent to a blog if desired.
General Instructions:
(1) Review dynamically and randomly generated word problems
(2) Share your question and answer summaries on our community blog.
(3) Email the questions and answers to your educator for review
(4) Explore related educational wiki links in a kid safe browser.
(5) Watch fun educational videos after you've correctly answered a certain number of questions. This can be set by the educator at a threshold of 1, 5, 10, 15, and 20 correct answers before the video feature is enabled. Family-friendly videos are filtered from Youtube.

This is a gorgeous app. Each of the Word problems are on the background of stunningly crisp photos of ocean life. I especially like the videos and the fact that they are given as an incentive for getting correct answers. I really like it a lot. It's a very unique way of teaching math.

This is such a great way to teach kids math in a fun way. My son loves animals and the links to learn more are a nice extra. This app works best on the iPad where you can really appreciate the beautiful images!

As a long-ago math major and now mom, I am excited to see a math app that makes the dreaded "word problems" so much fun! My kids love ocean animals. They'll really appreciate this.

My child is one of those kids who loves math outside of the math WORD problems, which he hates. All that reading, what's up with that! Finding a good or better yet, a GREAT MATH WORD PROBLEM GAME has been extremely difficult until now. This game is simply FANTASTIC, from the world problems into Wiki which is simply crazy and wonderful. My son is one of those kids who asks on the average of about 4 million questions a day. Endless in what a child can see and research without going into the adult Wiki world. I also love that he can hit "Done" and it flows back into his word problem game with ease. The video touches are simply fun with adorable moments that are captured. We watch those together because he gets so excited. Wonderful Touch! I loved the Oceans App so much, I now have Asia & Africa on my iPhone and love that IF we can swing buying an iPad I don't have to re-buy these apps since it downloaded itself into the iPhone, iPod touch & iPad section, nice touch. It makes it nice for those of us watching our pennies! Thank you for that. I also love that I can go into the preferences and adjust how many videos my child can watch, nice touch. My wish list, and I've contacted the makers who have been fantastic: 1) I get that the email button is for my child's results, but how about ridding off that and adding a button ONLY on the START PAGE that says "Parents Results Page" so I can touch and get results whenever I want, period. I'd like to see less buttons on the kids word problem page, it takes away from the photo of an adoring animal. I do love that you can hit 'Show Picture' and get a full photo, wonderful and adorable! 2) I don't think the kids need a Twitter button, the owners of this App are working on that. I'd love to see it go completely. That's just me, others may feel different. 3) Keep the video moments coming. 4) How about a TROPHY section for the kids? They can pick cool different trophy's for their collection shelf as the points roll in. Just an idea, as time goes on you may want to toy with this idea. 5) Remember, this is my wish list .... you may feel different! All in all, I took the time because for those Curios George's out there, this is simply FANTASTIC! This review has been added into Asia & Africa. These games are worth your few bucks!

A great learning tool

Word problems can be a challenge to many kids. This app presents them in a very nice way. All word problems in this app are about ocean life and they are accompanied by stunning pictures and great sounds. The child can also seek out more information about the animals by reading about them in Wiki pages in the app. The app is a real pleasure to use and also very educational.

Always when I encountered math problems as a kid, I thought "who ever thought up these weird topics"?! What I love about this app is that the problems are all relevant to the app's topic, which makes solving the problems much more fun. At the same time, your kid also meets an incredible variety of ocean cretures, with some truly amazing pics. Great work!

This app really does cover a multitude of grades and it does it quite well. The wording of each problem is made to match the level it's in. Level 1 wording is simpler than level 2 and so on. There are constant updates on all their apps and contacting the developer could not be easier. They replied within 48 hours. I will be buying more of their apps! Thank you for using technology at it's fullest, without necessarily giving answers to the students when it's being used in the classroom. (see the newest updates to understand.)

Truly breathtaking photos, but the lack of variety in the questions makes the word problems somewhat tedious. Good practice (repetition), but after the tenth problem asking the same question (with different numbers), it starts to get a little monotonous. Add some variations to the types of questions and this is a 5+ app.
App will not load!

This seems to happen in other iLive apps. I closed all other apps and restarted but still a problem. Would like to see if this app really works. Otherwise a waste of money.
