iBlueButton won multiple awards over the years including the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Industry Innovation competition for its Blue Button program. iBlueButton is the first Medicare approved native mobile Blue Button application, and you can find the app listed on the Medicare.gov website (go to Manage Your Health). As a partner of the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) since 2011, iBlueButton is also approved by the VA to allow Veterans to download their VA health record.
iBlueButton can also retrieve health records from the Apple Health App, allowing you to assemble all of your records into an enriched Summary Record.
For Medicare beneficiaries & their caregivers, iBlueButton lets them login into their MyMedicare.gov account to retrieve their medical claim history which is then automatically translated into an organized medical history.
Benefits of iBlueButton:
- BE PREPARED WITH YOUR CRITICAL INFORMATION ALWAYS WITH YOU
At the physician’s office or in the emergency room, be prepared with all the information you need securely organized and stored by iBlueButton on your smartphone or tablet. iBlueButton pulls and organizes your health records into easy to view sections. Your medical history is available for you at all times to review, research, understand medical terminology, annotate, and select the specific information you want to share.
- PERSONALIZED SAFETY WARNINGS
iBlueButton automatically generates important safety warnings about your medications to help you prevent adverse drug effects, alerting you about highly addictive opioids and of potentially dangerous drug-drug interactions, or medications which should be avoided if you are over the age of 65. iBlueButton also provides professionally recommended medical care guidelines for common chronic conditions and now generates warnings and prevention alerts for individuals at risk for severe Coronavirus illness with access to the CDC prevention ’s guidance.
- LIFE AND COST SAVING
On average, a Medicare beneficiary sees seven different physicians a year, with most physicians not having the full medical history of their patients, which can cause medical errors, unnecessary tests, and avoidable healthcare expenses. Veterans and military families experience these same healthcare issues, as their care takes place in both VA and private-sector facilities. iBlueButton helps you prevent dangerous medical errors by having with you, anytime and anywhere, your critical medical history.
- SECURE AND PRIVATE, UNDER YOUR CONTROL
Unlike most personal health applications, your information is only stored securely on your iPhone, under your control, not in the cloud. Your data remains yours, with no risk of tampering or hacking and is never shared or sold.
iBlueButton Service Subscription Terms:
iBlueButton is offered with two subscription choices of either monthly or annually to receive ongoing safety warnings with your periodically updated Medicare record. After a 2-month free trial, payment for the Service Subscription of your choice will be charged to your Apple ID account unless it is canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the trial. The Subscription automatically renews unless it is canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage and cancel your subscriptions by going to your account settings on the App Store after purchase.
I follow mobile-health initiatives and am familiar with the Blue-Button initiative for putting patients in control of their health information. This is a fantastic tool that does just that! It's perfect for Medicare patients. I'm going to tell my parents about it.
Now I can get my health records wherever I am. This is great! No more paperwork. It simplifies my life.
As someone who just has normal insurance coverage through Aetna, this app doesn't do much for me. It allows me to basically download a multi-page PDF from my insurance company and push it to a doctor. Helpful for vacations I suppose but it would be a lot more useful if the data was downloaded into a more interactive app that I could add more information too. Also it only lets me download info about myself versus my whole family.
I can't even put in answers for the security questions. It's not obvious if the answer has been entered. The last two questions can't be read in their entirety. "What was the name if your hig..." "Where did you meet..." NO idea what is being asked. Please go back to app school: BASIC DESIGN 101
I didn't know there was a way I could keep track of my medications and diagnosis on my phone until I found this app. I really like how easy it is to read my Medicare record - This app has the potential to save lives
Like another reviewer, the screen for entering security questions (answers) does not work, so I can't even get into the app to use it. I am running IOS 7. Hugely disappointed!
Very well-designed medical record app. It lets you download your medical information in text and CCD formats from your multiple doctors. It links from your medications or your procedures to reliable information on the web. It lets you securely send your medical information to a new doctor, if you're traveling. You can create a record for each member of your family, even your dog. The advanced standards behind this app will allow it to communicate with other apps, Like a health risk assessment. I like it. It helps me better manage my health. Stay well!!
Very useful app. I love the fact that you can view and download your health record on your phone
