Hydrothermal is a city building game where you create a space colony and ward off alien invaders. Control every aspect of your colony's layout, including zoning, building placement, and terrain features, all with the ability to conquer more land for expansion. Adjust the city details by balancing the budget, passing/repealing laws, and allocating extra resources into six areas using the balance of powers screen. Don't forget to build and manage an army though, aliens attack from time to time! I have an ipad2. After launching the game it flashes and goes back to the ipad default screen page. Sure glad I didn't pay for it!

I'm very glad that this game offers a demo version, instead of going the freemium route. I wish more strategy and simulation games for the iPad would follow this model. The starter tutorial leaves something to be desired, though anyone who is familiar with Sim City will grasp most concepts pretty fast. My main gripe is the demo is so short you don't get to see much. It ended right before my settlement was going to be attacked for the first time. I think the demo should be longer, and maybe instead of just having it end, pull a Maxis and treat the player to a series of natural (or unnatural) disasters so they can have some fun watching their demise. Also, the graphics leave something to be desired. If it has to be flat 2D I think it should be top-down instead of the odd front view. I would prefer isometric, though.
