Hook is a new music performance, mashup, and DJ app for iPhone and iPad. Arrange and trigger loops on a grid and create dynamic, expressive transitions with the Flux Fader — a multitouch "smart crossfader" that allows you to expressively make transitions between any combination of tracks/cells on the fly. The Flux Fader includes a two-axis control with 9 riser synths, glitch and gate effects, tempo-synced filter sweeps, an EQ, beat drop, tape stop, and filter drop. Combining all these to make transitions is the heart of playing live with Hook. Hook includes a full editor complete with auto transient slicing and waveform editing. Tight integration with AudioCopy makes it easy to drop in your own loops and sounds from other apps.

Real creative power can be found in the integrated sampler — record from mic/line, other apps via inter-app audio, and grab hooks from iTunes and Spotify. Change tempo in real time, and keep all your hooks in sync. Hook is a killer mashup tool with a full mixer, tons of tracks, integrated FX bus, per-cell fx, transpose, time stretching, tuning, timing and trigger settings, and more. Imagine the clip launching capabilities of Ableton Live in a futuristic multitouch environment.

It's going to be great, once it's a bit more predictable

I like their stuff, and I do buy and own quite a few of their Loopmasters-based sound packs to play with. If you've used them in iMPC Pro, or just used Launchpad, you might find "clips" that don't start on the bar as you'd expect, even though they're configured for that very behavior. I've had clips that launched a quarter beat too early, because I thought that the previous one of the same "type" (like a new bass line or kick rhythm to replace the currently playing one) would finish out its 4/4 bar before the newly selected one fires. Since all of them were configured for an entire bar of "resolution," it just seemed like it would work similar to other applications of this type. You can configure any given sample to have one bar, 1/2, 1/4, etc. timing points for the app's logic to know when to transition into another clip. But it just seemed like it would exit the currently playing clip by a 1/4 or 1/2 beat too early to start the next one, so I just wait until I'm within the last quarter of a given clip before I stop it or launch the replacement. But it's epic, and SO smooth. Very quick on my 6s Plus 128 GB, and I was making new projects and just importing packs I've already owned. On that note, I'm going to reserve my opinion on its behavior because, as shown with their iMPC Pro, it can paste entire libraries perfectly. I got kind of odd results, but I think I'm just doing something wrong.

Wow this rocks!

I've been wanting a way to DJ my set off an iOS device in a way that lets me improv for some time now, and this one is big enough to let me do just that! The grid just keeps scrolling and scrolling so I can put down as many cells as I need, and I can organize and label them easily. It also will automatically beat slice them so I can transpose and play them at different tempos, and has a detailed sample editor as well. Super cool. And the seamless transitions and drops are the icing on the cake.

Love it.

Great app. I used to use Launchpad, but I really like Hook more. Not sure how to "cleanup" my samples. No delete feature and while playing around I have a bunch of samples I want to delete. Can't seem to do that. An Undo would be nice. I accidentally dropped some sounds in wrong place on stage and overwrote all that I had done placing sounds. Had to start over. Would like more extensive sample and sound editing. It's supposed to be automatic, but it's not that intuitive. It's easy but to get it right and on beat takes some time. Works great though. I do love this app. I think some tweaks to the library and sound/sample storage and cleanup. Things like that and it's a 5 star app. Would like to be able to Hear the loops play while IN interapp app so while playing a synth I can hear the beats and keys ect. That said the inter app integration works well. Great job Retronyms.

Great app, and pairs really well with iMpc Pro. (iPad version) Would love to see three things: 1. Support for cell triggers via midi. To use a launch pad or the like. 2. Allowing users to set the key for a loop if meta data is not available. 3. Can monitor what's playing while recording a loop in order to create new loops/live looping. Keep it up!!

Hook comes with some built in sounds/loops for free. You can also sample some of your favorite tracks from Spotify or iTunes. There are a lot of transition/effect options too. It's a cool DJ app on your phone!

What I have been waiting for!
LoveAlice5

This is exactly what I have been waiting for. I have played around with all kinds Dj Apps, and this is by far the best when it comes to customizing your music. Arranging, and making music just the way you want. It has it all. Just give it a try.
