I recently downloaded homer and i can see how much my son loves it every time he opens up the app. Not only are the videos fun but then there’s some awesome lessons that really go in depth in teaching him to read and pronounce letters properly. I recommend it for any parent!

This is a very child friendly, creative and informative app. My daughter loves it. And customer service has been especially helpful. Thank you, Homer?

Kindergarteners expected to read

Tried it because kindergarteners are expected to read. BEST PURCHASE EVER! Games and stories are short and keep interest. Content changes as my daughter continues along her pathway. She's already starting to recognize letters, even trying to name them. She saw a capital F and called it an E, but that's an amazing start! She loves making silly letter creatures and fairy stories with stickers. She can record her voice at the end of some of the stories, and the really great thing about that is that I can access all of her sticker pictures, voice recordings and such. Speaking of stories, there is a wide variety, including informational text, fantasy, science fiction, etc. and she gets to choose between three different stories each time. For as cheap as it is every month and how much my daughter is learning, this is the best purchase I've ever made!

Great content with some big flaws

We had been subscribers to Homer for a few years. In the beginning we really loved it. Our kids were about 4 and 2 years old. Our daughter used Homer all the time and I do think it helped her reading skills. Both my kids were upset with the big update to the Wickles when they lost the carousel at the intro screen - I tend to agree. The carousel was lovely and easy. The Wickles are slow and the screen is crowded. We continued on. Our son started using it often too and we were so very excited with the postcards. We were supposed to be able to log in in our own account and even have family members send postcards to our children. We could do it (sometimes) but our family members couldn’t and it had so many bugs. My son still made hundreds of postcards that just got sent to “Homer”. Our biggest issue however, and the reason we stopped subscribing, was the user account issue. We had an account for our daughter and one for our son, and we should be able to create them- NOT the children. They were able to create extra accounts and use their sibling’s account and therefore tracking their progress and data was becoming very problematic. We contacted support several times but this issue was never resolved. I was very sad because I REALLY think the content is amazing. The folk songs and illustrations are really gorgeous. The stories and history lessons amazing. The games are creative and the reading programs are well-done. And my kids loved getting their Saturday Surprise. Because we stopped paying we lost ALL of our children’s data (all those amazing postcards, drawings and voice recordings) from their four years of use. Pretty disappointing :-(

Really great app for kids

My daughter’s teacher recommended it, and I’m so glad. We do some lessons every night after dinner, and it’s a fun way to wind down, while still being educational. My daughter really loves the stories where she can record herself, and is so proud to show off her skills.

Great, But it’s not listening to me!

I love this app, but I’m a bit confused. The first thing it asks you is what your kid can already do. My kid can identify the first sound of a word, so my assumption would be that the app would tailor to her skills. Instead, it asks over and over and over for her to identity words that start with W. This is not the only example. I tried twice to reset it so her skills would be taken into account when setting the level and it made my daughter redo a huge part of what she had already done rather than move her to the appropriate skill level. I want to love this, but this is frustrating me.
