Below Expectations

I don’t like that I need to pay before seeing the meal options and selecting them. I am not a fan of this weeks meal options at all, they seem too easy/casual. I want more “exotic” or “gormet” style meals. I have tried Blue Apron in the past and will be returning my services there. Wanted to give this company a go but I am not happy and have not even received the food yet. I cant cancel the first order either (even though it hasnt been shipped) which is not fair especially since I dont like whats on the menu. I’m paying for easy recipes I’m not thrilled about and cant even cancel the first order before shipment. Let customers choose their food AND THEN PAY. Huge disappointment. Cancelling after this first shipment. And yes this is on someone’s referral discount. Only paying $30 but still not happy with the service.

Love it but just few thoughts!!!

I love this systems. Home chef is the only one that delivers to my address and the meals are awesome. Just wish that there was little more customization to when you want it and how much and if you want to cancel easier our do it only so often. It would help if it was like this on the app.

Log-in Problem from the start

Mr Clio nola

On my iPhone SE, the keyboard obscured the log-in fields. Can’t see what you’re typing; can’t paste a complex password from another app.

Cancelling weekly deliveries not exactly intuitive, otherwise great food.

The food I’ve tried so far has been quite delicious. However, I have one quibble: While one can cancel a particular week (or weeks) for the service if needed, but the process to do so on the app works isn’t exactly intuitive, nor readily obvious.

No back up plan for delivery issues

I was so excited to try Home Chef, waited over a week, planned ahead to not buy any groceries for when delivery day came. My package was marked as delivered by FedEx but never appeared - Home Chef customer support is very limited so when I noticed my package hadn’t arrived, it was too late to call. Submitted a message request right away but had yet to hear back the next day so I still had to call and re-explain the situation. They do not re-ship missing packages and do not offer signature delivery so if your food goes missing, they will not do anything except issue a refund (on a Saturday so it’s not going through anytime soon). Customer service also needs to be extended to longer hours on delivery days...then again, what’s the point if the company doesn’t even have a plan for when delivery issues arise.

Solid service

I've been using Home Chef for a couple of years. Enough to fill two binders with recipes. The deliveries are generally good as far as reliability and quality, portion sizes are good with the exception of protein+side salad meals; those aren't enough for a meal. Early on there were issues with items being missing. They would always issue a refund, but it was frequent enough that I cancelled my service for a few months. They contacted me and offered a special to try them again, so I did and have been pleased. For the past year, it's been pretty good. Produce is fresh, proteins are high quality, and delivery remains reliable. Only issues: the shrimp always leaks juice into the bag of proteins and the recipe cards are often tossed in the box at and angle causing them to be bent when the box is closed. But the recipes are good, though I question some of the chefs' ability to cook meat considering their prescribed cooking temps and time. As far as the app, it's great. Easy to choose your meals (weeks in advance), skip weeks, and cancel. Can be tricky to find the Contact Us link, though, which is obnoxious. Still, highly recommend.

Disappointed!

After already being a Hello Fresh customer, we decided to give Home Chef a try. The delivery info for the first box said it would arrive on time. Even the day it was supposed to arrive the online information continued to say “On Time.” Ended up showing up the next day. The second box and it up coming to us with ingredients leaking. Nobody should have taw chicken leaking all over the place. A bottle of vinegar opened up in one of the bags as well. By day to one of the bags of salad was already wilting. We never had this many issues with Hello Fresh over the course of a few months, never mind two weeks. Overall, very disappointing! On the plus side though, we really enjoyed five out of the six recipes we ended up getting. We will probably make most of them again on our own. Recipes were easy to follow. Like other food delivery kits, very convenient! The app also worked very well for ordering and skipping weeks. I guess some of the old bugs got worked out.

Really Enjoying Home Chef

DerylD8

I have to be honest, I am loving Home Chef! The app itself is very straight forward and easy to navigate. I love being able to pick out my orders up to a month in advance so I can know exactly what I’m getting and when I’m getting it. The recipes I’ve tried so far have all been amazing & interesting. I’ve tried other similar services, but Home Chef offers the most bang for your bottom dollar. My only complaint is that if you aren’t able to reschedule an order. I wish there was an option to either re-order or Reschedule recipes from a previously skipped week. If Home Chef provides an option to reschedule previously skipped weeks, I’ll give them 5 stars.

Charged my card

Kristin GW

I downloaded the app to see what was being offered, and I entered my card info in case I liked what I saw and wanted to order through them. The app says for the following week of meals, they’d charge me on Friday. But instead, I looked at my bank app minutes later and see they took $60 out of account without me even choosing meals or anything. Mind you, it is Wednesday.

Can’t paste in password

ckokinos

I can’t even get past the login screen because they don’t let you scroll up to tap-and-hold to get the paste option in the field. They have the keyboard covering the field. I save my passwords in 1Password and it’s not possible to paste in. The app is useless.
