Helium Boy features full 3D Retina graphics with a cute artstyle. 8 challenging stages, all with unique environments and different types of gameplay. Full 3D gameplay, as well as a couple of traditional sidescrolling stages. Two difficulty modes: in beginner mode you can play the stages at you own pace and easily collect all the stars, but in normal mode the screen is scrolling automatically and constantly forces you to move forward, so you have to find the perfect route to get all the stars before they leave the screen.
Controls:
The game uses an onscreen gamepad. Touch the directional pad to move in the character in any direction. Press the Jump button repeatedly to fly with the balloons. If the balloons pop, press the Pump button to get new ones, or jump around without them. You can also let go of the balloons at any time by pressing the Drop button.
Helium Boy is a fun 3D plat former where you navigate a little dude with balloons to the end of the level. The screen scrolls automatically so you must keep moving; you can drop your balloons, but you must inflate more to continue. The game looks very nice (reminds me a little of Mario 64) with busy, colorful environments. Recommended.
Helium boy is a fun and unique platformer that is on the verge of being a great game. With the way that the controls are set up, it's much more difficult than it actually should be. The controls force you to either reduce the screen to a tiny square on the device or cover 25% of the screen with your finger. The other issue is that it's too difficult to tell how high up you are. The shadow below Helium boy does not show up until you get close to landing. I think it would be much better if the shadow was always under him and just getting larger and more faint as Helium boy gets higher in the air. Besides these issues, Helium boy is worth trying if you love platformers or unique game experiences.
Helium Boy is a nice little platformer for ios. Most of the game takes place in the air, and it can be hard to keep track of where you lie in the world. The game looks nice though, and the controls are pretty forgiving due to the infinite jump provided by the balloons. It's not the most polished game, but it's definitely worth a try.
The simple yet challenging and addictive gameplay has me hooked!
I'm happy with the new beginners mode. It lets me get used to the controls better and IMO it makes the game more fun. Keep the updates coming!
Really great game. Awesome graphics, soothing music. I like how the camera changes at stage 2 so the feel changes up a little too. Smart.
