Guitar Ear Training

Learn to play guitar by ear using this ear training app - by using your real guitar! Guitar Ear Training is a relative pitch ear training game that is designed to help you master how to hear, recognize and play melodies, intervals, triads, and chords progressions on your guitar. The way you play Guitar Ear Training is via your real guitar! Guitar Ear Training will play musical questions in the form of notes, melodies, and chord progression. You will answer the questions using your guitar. Your iPhone/iPad will listen to your answer(s) and provide feedback. Each answer to the musical questions will appear on the screen as note or chord diagrams. You will see the diagrams in green if you answer correctly and in red if you answer incorrectly. Each game has multiple levels. Level 1 of each game only has two possible correct answers. Each additional level adds a new possible answer to the game.

Each game was designed to work on a specific ear training skill in a musical context. The skills learned will apply directly to the music you are learning or creating. As you advance through the levels of each game, you will be amazed at how quickly you begin to naturally and instinctively recognize the notes and chords being played. You will be able to directly apply these new skills to any music you are listening to or learning and will be able to play back what you hear on your guitar. The reason Guitar Ear Training is so effective is because you are using your guitar to play the game. By doing so, you are training your hands to instinctively go where your ear hears.

Guitar Ear Training was created by an amateur guitarist that was frustrated by not being able to keep up with the pros he was privileged to play out and jam with. These pros could effortlessly play songs after just listening to them on the way to the gig or better yet, they could play music they had never heard before on stage and create interesting parts on the spot. The amateur had to spend countless hours memorizing and practicing the the songs on the set list. If there were any mid-song changes while on stage, the amateur was lost! What the amateur quickly realized was that the pros were not necessary playing difficult riffs and cool chops, but they could hear and play music as if they were talking...instinctively! They could always play the right notes at the right time. Their hands would instinctively go where their ears heard. They could speak the language of music.

Out of the frustration of not being able to keep up with these pros, came Guitar Ear Training. The premise is simple; an App that can teach you to effortlessly and confidently hear and instinctively play music on the guitar in any setting. Whether on stage, writing, recording or just jamming with friends, Guitar Ear Training's goal is simple. If you can hear it, you can play it.

Does it work? Yes! After just a few weeks of play testing during the development stages this was proven! For the first time ever, the amateur was on stage while a new song was added to the set list. He immediately knew the chords that were being played and how to improvise with them!

I found the software amazing. I really think it is one of the best tools ever created for learning guitar.

Great app. Well worth it.

Thanks for making this great app! I use the app personally and also have my guitar and voice students play it too. I use it for warm-ups during their lessons. They really like playing this game.

Really helpful app
Zep77Girl

It detects chords and melodies well on my guitar. After practicing with it, I can now hear simple chord changes and learn new songs quickly! I no longer need chords charts and tabs as I can now make my own!

If you're a musician in any way, you need this app

I've been playing guitar for years, but even in the beginning levels this app is teaching me to HEAR things in a way I never could before. Easy to use for beginners and still has things to teach even the more advanced musicians. I love it.

Love this app!

It really helped me learn guitar by ear!

REALLY good idea, BUT...

This is a great idea and I’m able to use and benefit significantly from some of the features, but a good amount of the functionality is buggy, at best. Some of the bugs: - Basic Chord changes- there are a few chords that the app simply doesn’t like to pick up (Bmin, F#min to name a few) making it impossible to progress/fully benefit from that feature (it won’t pass you unless it recognizes those chords as being played correctly). Played with an acoustic guitar in a quiet room, Mic sensitivity set to high. -The settings screen- crashes constantly. Fortunately the settings are saved upon adjustment, but it certainly breaks your workflow. A minor annoyance considering the potential benefits from this well-thought-out app, but a frustration, nonetheless. -Sight Singing- not sure if it was updating to iOS 11.4. or what, but it simply will not give me the time to sing the pitches (if the green “SING” appears at all, it is too quick to do anything. Mostly won’t move past the red “MUTE”). So this part of the app (for the time being?!?!) is useless. A few weeks ago it was a wonderful feature with a lot of promise. -Runaway trains- sometimes while practicing melodic and harmonic intervals, it will go into “Runaway train mode” and keep pelting me with questions without listening. That’s just bad manners! Developers, PLEASE fix these bugs! This is a great app with TREMENDOUS potential for creating an immediate and direct connection between the ear and fingers- the only one I’ve found that can do this in the App Store. Right now it’s falling short, but if these are fixed it’s easily the best ear to instrument ear training app I’ve seen. Some future additions that would be AWESOME: -Atonal melodic and harmonic intervals -Harmonic interval training using simultaneous and varying notes (it only recognizes one note right now and assumes the root of the given scale as the other) Overall, fantastic job with this. Just fix those functionality bugs, PLEASE ?? and I’ll happily give it 5 stars!

Horrible so far
jologtr

Horrible interface, crashing, horrible sub menus. I can’t figure why it is displaying the answers before I attempt it myself.

Terrific guitar ear trainer

I didn’t like this app at all when I got it. I tried it once, then put it aside. A month later, I tried it again with the same result. Once I discovered the Training Plan on their website, I had a complete turn-around. This is a terrific ear/guitar trainer that I look forward to using every day. They don’t make you creat a login, don’t have a subscription, and no ads. I don’t buy apps that do these. Kudos to the developer. Also has a good privacy policy. Again, kudos to the developer.
