Great Potential But Poor Functionality /UI

Starman6

Update: Thanks to the Devs for the quick reply. Unfortunately, it was unhelpful and primarily self promoting! There really aren’t a lot of customization options in the settings (as you claim) so, it was pretty easy to figure out how to block a source. But, it doesn’t work on my iPad. There’s no real “learning curve “ to using your app since there aren’t that many options! I’m still finding blocked sources showing up in my feed, even after blocking them. The Devs really need to look at some other news apps to see how it’s done, especially Smart News. For example, consider having smaller photos and a larger/bolder font so it’s easier on the eyes. This also allows for more items to show on the screen so there’s less scrolling. The bias rating is useless to me because I’m discerning enough to know where a story is coming from. Why don’t I have the option to switch of this feature as well as coverage analysis, thereby saving screen space? Why am I not able to rearrange order of Topics from the edit option?? So easy to do on Smart News! And, like on Smart News, why don’t I have a Smart view option for stories? This applies dark mode on stories and removes all ads/extraneous material from the page. They load much quicker and, there isn’t that jarring transition from dark to light mode when I go to a story. The best thing about this app is the large number of Topics and sources available, which is why I haven’t deleted it yet. And, providing several sources for the same story is also useful. With Smart News, I often have to scroll through many click bait sources to get to what I really want to read so, it’s not ideal either. But, still better than this one as far as functionality goes. Glad I didn’t opt for a subscription but, still hoping for improvements, in which case, I would reconsider.

Yet another great concept being faked by the right wing media

MTnewsfollower

Sure, this app claims to show a “fair” spread of news and report potential bias in media. But InfoWars is deranged man’s fictitious ramblings to justify his own insane beliefs; not a news source. Pretending otherwise is baseless and just supports him. Can’t help but note only major and right wing local news is listed and only right wing news stories really show up for local news. This is obviously another ruse from the right wing media to pretend to be fair while discrediting anyone else for disagreeing.

The Only way to read & watch news

InfinitelyWeinachtsfest

Ground news is the first news aggregator that provides the capability of reading news and information from the perspective that I want to read. It lets ME dictate and interpret what’s happening around the world in a sophisticated manner, because they provide the sources, and I can choose to read or watch from whatever bias I choose. It’s actually quite fun to be able to browse how news is being reported. Monica L

The way news should be

Drydiddy

My initial review of this was based on the idea that even though this app fulfils a need and dream I’ve had for awhile, it had some bugs and inconsistencies. But since my first review I’ve seen updates that have addressed most of the issues. This is indeed a good team of devs that are actively listening to their community. Normally I don’t bother looking at all the sources for every piece of news because it’s too time consuming. I just try to get a general idea without taking on too much bias, but despite my best efforts I’m sure I’ll take on the point of view of the first few articles which are being fed to me via some personalised algorithm. This app fixes that, not only can I get a clearer idea of the biases, I can also compare each side or location and get even more information.

Slow/No load

The very first article I tried to read with this app didn’t load at all. Then I tried to move on to the next source for the same topic. It only loaded partially. The concept is cool, but the execution isn’t. I would suggest that the app read the content of each site first and display the content in a reading mode instead of displaying the website as is. I fail to see the point of the app. The current version of this app can easily be replaced by a well designed website.

The Future of Online News Content

I love this app. In many ways we are still in the 19th century when it comes to the media industry even though the medium for consumption has changed. Having to listen to one persons opinion on something who pretends to be unbiased and works for a corporation which has a vested interest in outcomes social and political outcomes is utterly boring and exhausting. This app is fantastic and absolutely worth the monthly subscription price of only 83 cents a month. Thank you so much, this makes consuming world news enjoyable and interesting again. My only suggestion is to keep adding more news sources across the political spectrum to bring even greater variety of perspective. Any thoughts on this format in a nightly news program?

Great app for breaking news

This is the best way I’ve found to keep abreast of COVID-19 news. Excellent and easy to use.

Buggy, confusing

OutOfTheBarr

While I would love a competitor in this space of news aggregators with a twist, this app is baffling to use. Notifications make no sense and don't open up the story. The UI is a constant frustration to navigate for someone wanting to, you know, use the map and read news (seems like the point?). Is the map a nav tool or a visual organizer? Turns out it's bad at both. Map filtering? huh? The top menu buttons of Top and Latest give me the same stories generally. My News doesn't seem to make much sense, and when I'm actually wanting to read the story on the original site there's no usual direct 'open in Safari' menu item nearby. The core news feed format is good, but seems very dominated by world news. Having no way to say what your region or country is makes this best for reading local news or world news but not "national" news (which gets lost).

great app

more on the ground reporting, like twitter but with a map so it helps putting things into context in real-time
