I have played this game for 3 1/2 years. Yes, you have to spend real money to grow faster. However, in the current world I'm in, I have first hand witnessed corruption, bias, and theft. After sending requested info multiple times, grepolis has shafted me out of $50. In addition, the moderators and administrators show favoritism and give intel to the alliance that spends the most real money. Basically, you buy the win. I have had colonies that were started to be founded destroyed by enemy alliances that were over 7 hours away. There is no way the info of my movements could have been given to them except from those that can see everything in the game. Aka mods and admins. It can be a fun game, but not when the cards are stacked against you. Update: nothing has changed. Unless you want to spend hundreds of real dollars to win the game, don't get it. Another update. If you get “banned” in the game for foul language or whatever they feel like, your cities can still get attacked and conquered but there’s nothing you can do about it.
problems maintaining a connection to cloud

It can't keep a connection with the cloud which is a colossal pain. It means reloading and reloading and reloading. Otherwise an ok game, especially if you like building an empire but not fighting a lot. Join a good alliance and build away. Let the others bash each other. But downloading the game over and over is no fun, especially when the app at the I store can't download a new game. I've been waiting for days to get back next in.

Has bugs that still need to be fixed. Good game if your on the road and ave limited time to play in your hotel room.
App crashes only when the city is under attack

The application crashes when your city is under attack. Once the attack is over, the application let you get in back. Do not know if it is biased or not but will see. If I see it happening regularly than the developer must need to fibs a way to prevent such occurrences.
