Table of contents

Astral Sensation

Application is very helpful and innovative in that I can actually be interactive with the diagram. However, I would like to be able to pull up table of contents at any page of a current reading. It seems it is very difficult to go back to pages that had been read. I would like to have either bookmarks or access to table of contents.

The best way to read Go books

Justin Weiss

Love this app. I'm no longer limited to the books the bookstore keeps in stock. And the interactive diagrams are a lot of fun!

Revolutionary!

chessgodzilla

To put it simply: if you play Go, you want this app. Because if you play Go, you probably have a library of Go books, most of which just sit gathering dust. The problem with Go books is that they feature diagrams with large numbers of moves on each diagram. If the number of moves is more than about 5 (which is very common), then playing over the moves in your head is very difficult, and setting up a board and stones is worse because you would usually have to set up dozens of stones in just the right places. Go Books is a book-reading app for Go Books. In addition to letting you read Go books, this app makes the diagrams active, so you can play them through one stone at a time while reading the book. I can’t emphasize enough how much of a difference this makes; now I can go through my Go books and actually understand what is being played out on a move-by-move basis. It’s better on the iPad but works perfectly well on the iPhone too (would that there was a native Mac version — a man can dream…). In addition, there are tons of great Go books available, from older classics (some out of print!) to books that have just been published. The author of this app, Anders Kierulf, is also the author of the excellent SmartGo program (called SmartGo Kifu on the iPhone/iPad, and yes, you want that one too). Both programs are of impeccable quality; I can’t remember ever finding a bug in either one. and both are under active development. Even though SmartGo is great, it is Go Books (this app) which I think will have a really transformative effect on the Go community. I can’t recommend this highly enough to Go fans.

Notes are a great addition

Manybooks

This is a useful collection of books, and they're priced very reasonably -- being able to add my own notes makes it even more useful! A great resource. ⚫️⚪️

Better than paper

Saxmaam

Now that the app supports bookmarks and annotations, this is a better medium than paper. You can view the examples step by step, or experiment with your own variations. The author (of the app) is responsive to queries and suggestions. Bravo!

Essential

Vegas_Socrates

If you play Go, this app is for you. The ability to 'check' that the answer to a life and death problem is in fact correct is invaluable. Superb with the iPad. A must.

Great app for all Go players...

Me in Phoenix

This is a great application for all Go players. There are a really nice selection of books available for players of all skill levels.

My favorite learning app, period

i don't want a nickname.

I love it for learning Go, but more than that, it makes iPhone/iPad learning exactly how it should be. Wherever I am, I buy a book, read some ideas, apply them in the interactive game diagram, and keep going. Awesome. Also, the book selection has gotten better and better over time, and is now fantastic. Most of my favorites (missing only the Elementary Go series) are there. Plenty for anyone to learn from.

Great learning tool!

This program is really excellent in establishing a strong collection of great books about Go for all levels. The fact that I also practice and play on my iPad makes this program very functional for me.

Finally - easy to find the right Go book

So good it’s great

I am beginner Go player (even though I have played for years off and on). Recently I tried to find some good introductory books (ideally in electronic format). I failed. It seems the few available where printed versions and it was really hard to choose which one I wanted to invest my time in. Along comes this app. It makes choosing the right book a lot easier with careful reviews and introductions, and it makes the material easy to electronically. (I still love paper books, but do find i do most of my reading on my iPhone/iPad these days). Great companion to the Smart Go Board app.
