Geocaching with Geosphere

Geocaching with Geosphere provides a comprehensive package of features to support your geocaching habits. With access to the nearly 2 million geocaches worldwide registered with Geocaching.com, Geosphere is the app of choice for any level, novice to hardcore.
Category Price Seller Device
Navigation $7.99 Mark Bryers iPhone, iPad, iPod

Feeling spontaneous? Just check for caches nearby, select your target and go! Use the description, hint, published logs, photo gallery, satellite image and compass (if your device has a built-in GPS) to locate the geocache. Finally, post your own log - all while still in the field.

Planning an outing or vacation? Preload the desired data for your destination using online searches or import GPX files / pocket queries before you even leave home. Geosphere stores the information in an internal database for later offline use when you don’t have Internet access.

Extensive filtering capabilities allow you to see only those caches you’re interested in. View search results in handy list form or displayed on a map. You can even organize caches into groups that are meaningful to you. Geosphere even includes help videos to demonstrate these and many more features.

Note: Access to the Geocaching.com database is provided under a license agreement. Geocaching.com limits the data available based on the user’s membership type; they require a premium membership for full data access.

Does not work on iOS 11. Likes it when it worked.

This app is USELESS!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

The reviews here that are 5 stars are 100% paid-for reviews or developers of the app. This app does nothing it says. It is a dated looking app. It has 4 painfully slow videos that explain absolutely nothing (since when do you need videos to show you how to use an app?). So I watch the videos and nothing. There is no way to find caches. You are forced to hunt and peck at every tab and every menu and at the end of it you still have an app that does not do anything. There's a tab to import targets from Geocache.com, does nothing. There's a tab to navigate to a target, there are no targets. There's a Online Cache button, nope, no caches. There's an Offline Cache button, you guessed it, nada. There's a hundred options and not one of them does a thing. I ABSOLUTELY WANT A REFUND! You are throwing your money away if you buy this thing, I would say App but is does nothing, it is absolutely useless.

I've been using this app for a while. I like how it works but a couple of things anger me about it. You shouldn't have to pay money for an app that needs you to upgrade to access extra features. If this 7.99 app had been free, I'd have forgiven it. You have to pay to access details on anything over your 3rd geocache. You can only see 20 log histories etc. it's a bunch of asinine and arbitrary restrictions. The user interface seemed designed by someone with aspergers. Once you get comfortable with it, it's fine, but it seems like such a roundabout way of getting some f'ing dots to show up on a god forsaken map! Jeeze how complicated and snafu like does it have to be? Keep it simple stupid. That's the KISS design rule that geosphere ignores.

The Best

I have tried all the major caching apps, and this is the only one that remains in my iPhone. I have not seen any other app that is as powerful, yet simple to use. It offers the best display for cache information. It's ability to import caches, filter, merge lists, edit cache information, and export gpx files lets it act as a mini-gsak. I use Geosphere to manage caches for every conceivable purpose - from preparing groups for upcoming travel to keep track of puzzles that have been completed or qualified challenges. It's internal ignore feature that s much more useful than the website. It's ability to edit caches, project waypoints, and view the underlying source makes it useful in almost every situation. It's display of cache pages is second to none. It's transition from online to offline caching is seamless. Shouod I want to use a gpsr, I easily export the caches to that. And it interfaces nicely with routing apps to get me where I want to go - from the cache page I use it to link directly to Navigon, Here, Pocket E arth, and several other mapping apps. Some recent reviews have complained that basic members are limited, but that is Groundspeak's API and not the fault of the app. If you get it, install the language fix. The website forum is helpful for more information or questions.

Still the Best

I have tried most of the caching apps, but this is the only one that I use - both caching and cache management. It's features include live searches and the usual caching tools, but provides the ability to maintain multiple databases (groups) and to import, filter, edit, merge and export cache information. The transition between online and offline caching is seamless. I link to routing apps from each cache page (including Navigon, Here, and Pocket Earth). I have never seen a better display of each cache page. I maintain groups of caches I might want to find when traveling, solved puzzles, and other criteria. Add to this, the ability to edit cache descriptions, change the coordinates, ignore caches internally, and do projections. If I want to use my handheld gpsr, I export the data from Geosphere to it. Some reviews have blamed this app for limitations of the Groundspeak API. And you will need to install the language fix in the app to correct some problems with the display. The app's forums provide help and support, but Geosphere has always seemed simple, easy, and powerful to me.

Nothing else comes close!

Updated for 09/2016 Using on ios10 I guess the updates to iOS finally got to this app. I am one of its biggest fans but now it has failed and I can't even upload geocaches. Please please please update and keep this wonderful best in class geocaching app available. The "improved" standard free app didn't even come close to this one in terms of control and utility in the field. Even with last update being 2013 / IOS 7. If you use an iPhone this is a no brainer! Buy it. Updated user interface is now leveraging the direct API which means you get best of both worlds: ad hoc anywhere anytime access or offline DB mode with thousands of caches pre loaded. Gr8 integration with Dropbox for exporting and importing GPX and field notes etc. Now you can deal with photos and trackable's at the same time you're logging a geocache! The mode strip is very convenient for turning the GPS on and off - and the flashlight button kicks butt! Nice touch! I've been hoping that I could sort on attributes and favorites and my wish has now come true! Overall, an amazing and powerful update. The potential is absolutely there. I can't wait to get out and put it through its paces. Hopefully it's as reliable and high-performance as the previous version. All indicators are that it will be. ******************************* The one feature I would like to see added is the display of the last few logs in List View using symbols indicating whether a cache was found, not found, or notes. Remains top desire able. ******************************** I don't love the constant compass calibrate screen at most in opportune times! Would love a way to quickly bypass sometimes!!! My experience caching w iPhone 6S Plus is very positive. Battery life is as decent as can be expected. Recommend you invest in aux charger pack for all day sessions. Integration w navigon and maps is handy. Pick a target cache, using built-in bookmark send target coords to Navigon and let it voice turn by turn get you to nearest drivable spot, then jump back into Geosphere and got get it on bike or foot! Very handy and safer to keep eyes on road rather than GPS unit or phone. Lately, I have enjoyed speaking or dictating my log entries into the phone. It works very well! It's nice to be able to upload as log in real time now if desired rather than as a field note like before. Since I am a GSAK user I tend to log and load after a day or two all at once, but sometimes, like FTF you want to put something in place quick. No I have no need for ground speaks app at all!!! Great job. More later on battery life and operation.

Do not upgrade to iOS 10
Going away now

Logging no longer works in iOS 10. You can create a log but cannot upload it in any manner. I love this app so this is a major bummer

STAY AWAY! Fraudulent
ARC-Clonetrooper

You pay 7.99 to get no access other then on the geocaching.com app without the premium membership. IOT get full access you need to become a full member. But then you totally overpaid. Because not only is this app absolutely crappy you got really nothing in addition but less money in your account. This is just wrong and stupid morons like me get schlonged!! Be smart!! Save your money!!!!

Takes a little getting used to, but pretty dang good

No more support and doesn't work anymore. Try Cachly.
