Great iPad Version of classic table top game.

Flattop Midway is something that I have been waiting for on the iPad. If you remember the old classic table top war games by Avalon Hill, this is for you. The developers have a great concept on their hands and I am surprised others haven't done it yet. In one of the most pivotal battles during WWII, you can play as either the US or Japanese forces. You can position your carriers as they did back then or you can try a new tactic. You have to find your enemy before they find you so you send out your scout planes. Once you have found the enemy, then you can send out your fighters or bombers depending on what you encounter. I love the fog of war aspect of this game as it does keep you on the edge of your seat of where they might show up and how they are attacking. I have played three games so far and after a short learning curve, I was trying different strategies out to defeat the enemy. If you are a WWII buff and enjoy strategy games, give this game a try. I think you will love it and the developers are quick to respond if you have questions. I highly recommend this game.

Needs work.

This could be a fun replication of the old board game if it was a LOT more user friendly. Gameplay makes sense if you can figure it out, but the interface is far from intuitive and very poorly documented. I've played about a half a dozen games and still can't figure out how to get my planes to attack the enemy planes. Meanwhile, all mine are blown out of the sky. The developer's web site offers no additional illumination either. On top of that, the current version is also pretty buggy.

Very Disappointed

The instructions do not provide enough information on how to play. It isn't clear how to access your aircraft once they are launched in order to set their course. You cannot load an existing game; when you tap on it in the menu nothing happens.

Has potential, but not playable in this version.

I first reviewed this game in 2013 and gave it an A for intent, a B for effort, but a D for execution. The new version shows progress, but the game play is still hard to figure out. A YouTube video might help. I have the developer keeps going, because the potential of this game is huge. My new grade is A for intent, A- for effort, and C+ for execution.

It's a start...

Not ready for prime time. Agree with other reviewer, this version is not really playable. Ex. When I pick historical there isn't Midway to be seen even zoomed all the way out. While zoomed out the action icons decrease in size in the same proportion making them impossible to use reliably. You can't fight the enemy and the user interface. I do like what I see in general though! I was very excited when I first saw this game as it reminded me of the old DOS game from years back called "Carrier Wars 2" by SSG (Strategic Simulations Group) back in 1994.
