Games $1.99 Learning Touch LLC iPhone, iPad, iPod

This latest installment of the best-selling "First Words" educational game from Learning Touch will keep the toddlers in your life laughing while they learn about letters and words.

FirstWords: At Home includes pictures of over 50 familiar items from around the house, beautifully depicted with original artwork and entertaining sound effects.

FirstWords: At Home is toddler-tested and approved, with a user-interface designed specifically for the littlest of fingers. Even the youngest kids can play. Touch a letter, and its name is spoken. Push the letter to the right location, and it snaps into place. Complete a word, and hear the word spelled out while an entertaining animation is played.

A variety of options let you tune the game to match your child's abilities.

Kids can play FirstWords: At Home by themselves, but they also enjoy bringing their adults along, talking about the pictures, saying the names of the letters, and watching the pictures spin around and sound off.

If your child is old enough to ask for your phone, they're old enough to play FirstWords: At Home!

** If you like FirstWords: At Home, make sure to check out the other two titles in the First Words series: First Words Animals and First Words Vehicles.

Great app for learning everyday words
lovenlife227

This my favorite app because it teaches kids the words for everyday objects that we use around the house and the words are spelled using lower case letters. Keep the great apps coming! -------- Could you have an option where the letters say their phonics sounds instead of their name for pre-readers? -------

Excellent teacher of early reading skills
TwoBits

Simple to use. Pronunciation is very clear, and good volume. Illustrations are very inviting (though not entirely realistic). Some of the sounds are clearly authentic. Some may not be. The sounds are not as strong a motivator as they are in the First Words: Animals app. Animation of the illustrations is not realistic. (They all twirl and get larger. None do more than that.) There are five options available to tailor the app's difficulty. (See screenshots.) The "Get More Words" selection just takes you to a screen describing the other apps in the series. The "Send Us Feedback" selection presents you with a communications form to fill out, which presumably you can use to get support, as well as just commenting on the app. This series of apps is the best I've seen in the App Store for early reading skills. (But admittedly, I haven't looked at all that many.)

I'm using it for speech therapy with young children. They love the spinning items. I like how I can get many responses from kids by adjusting the settings and having the last part of the page go faster. SLPs, be sure to check out the settings options!
