Great comfort during Hurricane Irma

Not working as described

Downloaded this app because of the hurricane and it's not working, messages wasn't going through, am about to uninstall.

Everyone in the area downloaded this app to stay in touch during Hurricane Irma. Nobody received the messages until wireless service was back up.
Sounds good, doesn't work

Advertised as an app that would essentially create its own network peer-to-peer through Bluetooth. Like many, was at a festival with 0 network connection and/or wifi, and it definitely ruined a lot of people's trip not being able to meet up with their friends/family amongst 30,000 people. Even if I was only able to connect with the tent next to me, the app also constantly crashes and doesn't send for up to 24 hours sometimes. It's just not what the developers want it to be.

I downloaded it and could never use it, not even with wifi. I couldn't add any of my friends and no one could find me. Maybe I did something wrong, but I never got a response when I asked the FireChat profile. Thankfully, I didn't need it. I'm deleting the app and profile altogether.

Did not meet expectations

I tried using this app at the Oregon Total Eclipse August 2017 involving approx 30K people. The event had no cellular or wifi access. Fireside chat was a highly talked about app prior to the event but it did not work at the event. It worked prior to the event, where there was cell phone and wifi access. The same people I was chatting with before the event did not receive any of my messages at the event and vise versa. I overheard a number of people talking about it not working for them as well, unless someone was sitting next to them at their own camp. Overall, the consensus at the Oregon Eclipse was thumbs down.
