Fire Flow / Pump Pressure Calculator

This fire application calculates both estimated needed fire flow required to extinguish a structure fire as well as calculate pump discharge pressures for various hand-lines and master streams in both standard and metric terms.

The application is designed by driver / operators to be used during emergency response or pre-planning to apply calculations to help control the fire ground incident when it occurs.

The National Fire Academy formula and the Iowa State formula can be used to generate the estimated necessary fire flow. These two methods give different total GPMs (LPMs), but the chances for effective knockdown and suppression efforts are increased when the needed fire flow is calculated and pre-determined.

The pump discharge pressure calculator estimates the pump panel discharge pressure needed for various hose configurations measured in both Psi and kPa using simple inputs such as nozzle type, hose diameter, hose length, appliance friction loss and elevation. The formula used is PDP = NP + FL + AFL + EL.

WARNING: This app takes no responsibility for the results it produces. Although the calculations have been thoroughly tested and referenced, use the results with caution - understanding that circumstances vary from situation to situation. These calculations should simply be used as another tool in the toolbox.

Pretty dang good!

I think this app is pretty awesome! Wish it had 1” hose calculations as well for our wildland applications, but I’ll live with that

Nice tool
Ice733

I find that this has been a useful little tool for pre-plans for flow calculations. I also started using it for in house teaching as a quick reference. I think it’s worth the purchase.

No 2” attack line calculator
MrTrizzle_

This is an excellent tool if you are using the old fashioned 1 3/4” and 2 1/2” attack line setup on your apparatus. However, there is no calculation method for those that have the more modern approach of a 2” attack line. Hoping the devs can fix this issue with an update as more and more departments are turning to 2” attack lines as they can achieve what we use 2 1/2” for with much less physical effort.
