It works, ok? What it does is amazing.

Yes, it's a bit janky but it does something extremely useful. A couple bad reviews here were based on expecting something it's not (like running on an osx device!) You need 2 iOS devices. The one you actually film on has to run filmic pro. I used my iPhone 4S. I used my old 3GS to run filmic remote. (You can use your old phone on wifi even if it's no longer on a cell-phone plan). Yes, the image in the remote is extremely degraded. It's bad. But you can place the exposure and focus reticules wherever you need. The image is good enough for framing. The slave unit (my 4S in my case) is filming in glorious 1020p. I'm sure the crummy image in the remote is due to hardware and bandwidth limitations. The fact that this works at all is amazing. It makes all the difference in the world for self-shooting talking head videos. I am going to use it for stealthily filming my cats. I would have gladly paid a couple hundred bucks for a hardware unit that does this. How spoiled are we? The laws of physics still apply, people. One big caveat: it really eats the battery in the slave unit (the one that's actually filming). Really. Seems it will deplete a full charge in just a few minutes. You really need it plugged in to a charger, and it gets hot. This would be a serious limitation for use in wilderness or remote settings. And you need to be a little patient to get the two iOS devices talking to each other. (I have used it on wifi only so can't comment on pairing devices via Bluetooth). So take off a star for lack of polish. But the core functionality allows the device to be used in a whole new way. Hey, I just realized it would be great to be able to use this for still photos as well. Either you can do this and I didn't notice, or this is a feature request.

Great product

Took me all of 5 minutes to get this working. It's exactly what I needed - remote control of an iPhone from my iPad. I paused before downloading because of some of the bad reviews. But on deeper read it's clear that the other reviewers are clueless on what this was designed for.

Useless

Filmic Pro Lover

The amount of latency/lag between the video feed and the remote viewer makes this app completely useless. It's a joke that this is even put out to the public as some kind of useable app. Really sad b/c I am a huge Filmic Pro fan.

Some glitches, but a great start...worth it for me

Initially I could not get the preview of this to work at all. Tried on both Bluetooth and wifi, but then I decided to hit the B/W button at the top of the preview, and Voila! It Worked. I was able to switch it back to Color and it worked again. Is there latency...yes. Almost a second of it, but there is no latency on the controls, just on the preview. Is the preview great looking? Nope. But it is good enough to show me I am in frame and set the focus, white balance, etc... Keep working on this Cinegenix! I am REALLY thankful for this app as it will keep me from having to rig up some strange mirror contraption or other finicky method for trying to record myself through an ipad teleprompter (where the iphone becomes mostly unaccessible as it is housed under fabric).

Far from Ready

I wish I hadn’t wasted the money on this product. The application crashes, shows terrible video from one of the iPhones, switching cameras (when it will work) takes a very long time. There is no technical support area that I can find. I am really disappointed.

Hire a camera operator instead

Intermittently crashes Filmic Pro on the target device. Works otherwise, but if you can't trust it, you can't use it. iPad 2, iPad Air, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5s, doesn't matter. Something in the code causes Filmic to exit to the home screen (and therefore stop recording) at random times for reasons I cannot determine. Recruit a friend to frame and focus your Filmic devices.

Good tool, refinements needed

Bradg13

I had to hit the b/w button before it would work. I was then able to swap back to color. Image is not very good, and there is delay when moving the slave. I'm using it as a monitor when the iphone is on a jib. It's useful for me to be able to see what's in frame......but trying to change focal points is impossible due to the image quality. This is a good idea, and a good start for the app. I can't wait for some updates to help with the delay.

Doesn't even connect + no help files DO NOT BUY!

Chief BowWow

Sucked right from the start. Could not connect to my iPhone 5s from start. And there is absolutely no documentation. The in-app help is a freakin' joke. It's a blank document that literally has one typed line that says "FiLMiC Remote Help File This is a doc file saved as a pdf and presented from within FiLMiC Remote. V2" this app doesn't do what they say it does, and I feel cheated into buying it, DO NOT BUY!

Remote changes exposure

Kirk Lantz

The remote won't let me lock the exposure. It changes every few seconds and because of that alone I could not use this app anymore on my shoot today and was kinda disappointed after waiting so long for this feature.

Won't Connect

p_ott

I have a 6s and an iPad pro 9.7 and they won't connect to each other in either direction, the searching screen just comes up blank. Maybe this'll get fixed in the next update. I'd gladly change my review because I was really looking forward to using this, it seems so promising!
