ESSENCE's 40th Anniversary Mosaic
In May 1970, the first issue of ESSENCE arrived on newsstands. The cover featured a bold, beautiful Black woman with a gorgeous halo of natural hair. And now 40 years later, we have re-created that iconic image through a mosaic of all of our 496 covers. We hope that you enjoy this retrospective of Black women's style and unique cultural experience.
