Okay, let's get this straight

You have to use this app the right way. Point it at an elf trigger (they had them at the mall Santa booth) and an animated character pops out and does goofy stuff. It works well if you use it the right way.
Camera can't focus so it takes time

It's really quirky. After ten minutes of trying, we were only able to get about half of the of the elf triggers to work.
