EarMachine

EarMachine is an app that makes it easy to listen to the sounds that you want to hear. Those sounds can be picked up by the microphone in your phone or earbuds, and can be played from your music library! EarMachine is helpful in situations ranging from talking in noisy restaurants to watching television at home.

Features:

Simple Interface, Complex Processing
With a simple interface, EarMachine, allows you to adjust more that 150 signal processing parameters with a simple swipe of your finger on a wheel. The mapping from wheel position to parameter values is the result of a large-scale analysis of the hearing status of more than 10,000 people.

EarShare: An intelligent recommendation engine
Ear Machine also contains a recommendation engine called EarShare. This engine will listen to the sounds around you and use that information to recommend wheel positions. The recommendations are based on both large-scale analyses of hearing abilities as well as your usage of the app. EarShare will give better recommendations the more you use the app.

Listen to whatever sounds you want.
Ear Machine allows you to choose whether you want to listen to the microphone in your iOS device, or the one in your earbuds (iOS 7 only). You can also use Ear Machine to listen to songs/podcasts in your music library.

State of the Art Signal Processing
The signal processing in Ear Machine is similar to what is used in most hearing instruments. A wide-dynamic range multiband compressor ensures that quiet sounds are amplified, while protecting you from sounds that are already loud. A multiband limiter provides further protection from loud sounds. An expander makes sure that very quiet sounds (e.g., refrigerator hum) are not annoying. You can even use Ear Machine as a sound level meter (works best with phone microphone).

Reviews

bluetooth support?
MR.mOnZtre

Seriously great app. what would push it up to 11 for me is if it was compatible with bluetooth mic and ear sets. again, great app!

NO problem with OS 7.1 on iPhone5s and better yet...
Emilyg70

Works better than my pricey new made for iPhone hearing aids in some situations. Wish it worked with Bluetooth.

Great App, but...
Len Bartz

Very nice app. I LOVE the simple, easy to use interface. But, it lacks a couple of features that will keep me from using it. The main gripe I have is the lack of bluetooth support. That's a killer. I'd also like to see, the ability to run the app in the background ALL THE TIME. I'd like to be able to hear the audio of my environment layered over the top of my other activities that make use of the headphones. For example, I'd like to be able to play a game, listen to music or watch netflix and have the microphone continue to be active, so I can hear when someone speaks to me. This would make this app useful not just to the hearing impaired, but to everyione.

Best yet

Ear Machine

I downloaded this app wondering how well it would work with watching TV. I was quite pleased with its user interface and operation. I would recommend to anyone who need a hearing assist.

Great but Tinny. Need more base or deeper sound.

Good idea, not so good implementation
sehlat

The basic idea is good. Use the phone as a listening helper for noisy environments. However, it crashes and locks up at the drop of a bit. Also needs more flexible base and treble control.

Wonderful

A great app for hearing with. I'm greatly impaired and use this app at appointments, watching tv, at church services and private conversations with family and friends. I'm a candidate for surgery to correct otosclerosis. Until I get this two part surgery I have been using this app a lot

Ear app
Oman134

Excellent app. I can get the mike close to the speaker. Better than my hearing aid. Well done. Would like it even better if it worked with a Bluetooth mile or earpiece. Go wireless. Five stars

Great App- develop BT & Really good!
swedishpassions

I've lost upper frequencies & about 1/3 hearing loss in right ear from age and genes. Using with TV in just right ear and wife happy that TV not so loud. Is some, but actually very little digital conversion delay and easy to get use to or use both earphones... BlueTooth add will be a plus. Can't beat free or NIH UNDERWRITING development. Works for me!
