Massive Background Usage

Why does this app use such a massive amount of background activity which affects my battery? I checked the “Battery” setting on my iPhone 11 Pro Max running iOS 13.5.1 and this app is showing “11-12 hours background” which shouldn’t be happening. I open this app once or twice a day only plus I have background app refresh turned off. Why in the world is this app running in the background this way and draining my battery? The next app that uses a lot of my battery is Flipboard and it only shows a little over 1 hour daily background usage.
Slow, freezes and constantly crashes....

Had high hopes, but such a clunky app. Probably due to the ads (plus links) loading causing bad performance. Shame because has great content so I guess I’ll stick with Facebook....

So true! It seems many enthusiasts have simply been priced out of their enthusiasm. Would love to see affordable options to the things that got us enthused I the first place.
