Carl made it worth it!

MKJ&MKJ

When I first trialed the app, I wasn’t sure I’d like it, but after having stuck with it for a couple of months, I’m sold. The AI is great and makes it very easy for me to know how many reps to do and how much weight to lift. No more guessing. He brings all the science of lifting to this app, and I’d been lifting regularly for two years. This really is something different than any other app out there. Additionally, Carl is VERY responsive to his customers and constantly updates the app to make it better. He has a great business plan.

No way to set up account...

App asks a bunch of questions and then asks me to login, but never had me set up an account! Or is this another of those “must be on Facebook” apps? It also crashes frequently on newer iPhone.

Best App Ever Designed

This app is absolutely amazing. I have been in and out of the gym for a few years with some light progress every time and modest gains, however, the implementation of this app helped me gain 10 lbs and become significantly more defined in the first 6 weeks. Very easy to use, and the customer service is incredible. This app is really great for anyone from beginners to experts.

Guides you with science and adapts to your progress

This app is expensive as apps go but it's much cheaper than a personal trainer, and I'd argue it's smarter than most because it uses scientific theories instead of gut feel. It's allowed me to make more consistent progress than struggling on my own, so it's the best value for me. I love how it converts your performance to a calculated 1RM to track your progress over automatically varying sets and reps. Plus it automatically deloads you when you need it. With this app I feel confident I’m training according to the best available science.

Absolutely worth it.

I only started lifting 3 years ago. I’m 48. I started with BodySpace and JeFit. Both of those were reasonably good trackers. — When I tested Dr Muscle, I was doubtful that it would be what I wanted. It didn’t appear as polished as some of the other apps, but as I started to comply with the AI and just doing what it told me, I really saw the benefit. I had to accept that it was smarter than me, and I needed to just comply with the weight, reps, and sets. I’ve been doing it now for about 4 months, and it’s great. It optimizes my gym time. The company has been great too. They genuinely want feedback from the customers, and they have great service when I have questions.

I would give it a 10 if I could

One of the things I have struggled with is progressing in my workouts without injuring myself. I'm a 56 year old former bodybuilder who stopped working out and got very out of shape the last 10 years due to work/family commitments getting in the way. Last April I decided to take my health back. I've lost 105 pounds and got back in the gym. The problem I was having is I know how to lift as a bodybuilder, but was concerned many of my routines and attempts at progress would lead to injury therefore my progression wasn't really happening as I kept switching routines trying to find the right one and was hesitant to increase weight/reps. You've taken all that guesswork out of the equation for me. My strength has been increasing. I can feel in my muscles that they are being worked, but not destroyed. I can see a difference in my physique. An added bonus, as an IT guy, I'm intrigued when technology can help me with my workouts and I love the app interface. Nice, straight-forward, and effective to manage my workouts

Desire + Devotion + Dr. Muscle = results

I have used multiple apps, some I like and others- not so much. Dr. Muscle takes the brain work out of working out. I simply show up and follow direction. Every once in awhile break the rules to increase intensity. Best of all, the customer service is exceptional!

MAKE SURE YOU TRY BEFORE YOU BUY

This app has some real magic that it does, but make sure you’ve got enough self-discipline to get up and exercise regularly. I know that seems obvious, but if you’re looking for an app that is honed on starting from zero, THIS ISN'T IT. My wife and I really tried to make this work for us starting a workout routine regularly for the first time, and it just wasn’t well suited for what we needed for our motivation. You can try it out before you commit, make sure you do that.

Outstanding programming, if you can afford it

ToddStark

I liked doing the trial of this app very much although I can’t afford the subscription. The timed protocol is very easy to follow using the app and the progression scheme gives you a very accurate and useful sense of progress. I think this app probably would make a sensible alternative to a personal trainer for a lot of people. But the subscription cost is, by my standards, prohibitively expensive, at $50/month. If that doesn’t give you sticker shock, try this out, it’s one of the most elegant sources of strength training programming guidance I’ve seen anywhere.

For the ladies ...

Look, I’m a 46 year old woman I’m moderately fit - and don’t have any unrealistic goals about competing or having a perfectly cut body. I feel the need to say this app is for everyone, not just male aspiring body builders. It’s highly customizable and adjusts to your fitness goals easily. I’ve always worked out and had been doing CrossFit for the past 3 or so years. After many CrossFit disappointments ( I won’t go off on that) I went back to the gym but found it hard to get into a routine, and In fairness to CrossFit, I had gotten used to external forces and a planned routine to keep me motivated. After floundering at the gym for a few months I came across this app. It’s a gym game changer. Even my worst, lazy, unmotivated, moments I have a specific routine I know I need to do. I see so many people wasting time at the gym , spending hours there on their phone taking up prime real estate and franking doing exercises that not only seem useless, but could in fact be harmful. And I see many women that don’t seem to feel comfortable using heavier weights ( I also see superhero fabulously fit heavy lifting women- don’t get me wrong). But I feel like everyone could benefit from using this app. Efficient, simple and science based. Anyway - if you hate the idea of going it alone in the weight room or chatting it up with the gym trainer - this is the app for you. It’s far less money than a trainer - and you’ll never have to do a burpee or kipping pull up again.
